    There are unfortunately not enough circles in AMS2 at the moment. Wish we had Charlotte, Texas or even Richmond for short track racing.

    I would say the first thing that needs to happen for MP to be taken a bit seriously is to improve the reliability of its features (whether it is reliability of the network code, sync'ing of green lights, sync'ing of live track, rolling start procedure etc. there is a wide choice of matters that need to be tackled).
    After that comes some sort of plan for a set of sim integrated events (call them competition servers or whatever, there must be something integrated in the sim as official Reiza content)
    Only after all this is implemented a proper ranking will be necessary and therefore an increase in depth of the current one will be needed.
    Until then MP will be ghost town or leagues only and even that it will be sparsely populated.
    Let's say that given the rate of progress on these matters and it being likely in competition/pulling coders resources from the already announced career mode, I would not expect AMS2 to have active MP life anytime soon, but hopefully we are in for some sort of surprise soon?

    Quite so, which I why I would be willing--happy, in fact--to pay an additional monthly subscription that would fund a robust, scheduled multiplayer server setup, with all the accoutrements, managed by Reiza ... assuming they improve the multiplayer side of the sim to warrant such an infrastructure. A service of that nature, with a multiplayer-only subscription pricing model that substantively undercuts iRacing (e.g., change nothing about the current DLC pricing, just charge a monthly for Reiza's official multiplayer service), would generate a win-win scenario for the entire AMS2 community. Reiza would have an incentive to make AMS2 truly multiplayer ready and competitive against its peers. Otherwise, we may end up getting nothing truly of real benefit with multiplayer, as the huge amount of work to help the sim reach its potential in that area may simply not be worth doing free of charge.

    As the saying goes, only Renato knows what devilry lurks within the deeps of the Madness engine, and to what extent our hopes for improved AMS2 multiplayer will ultimately be achieved.

    I, too, would be happy to pay a small monthly fee for such a service. It would only take a small amount per month to fund some decent MP development costs and, perhaps more importantly, dissuade the casual wreckers. Two birds with one stone...

    I have very little interest in online racing, mostly because my gaming schedule is mostly late at night, but Reiza suddenly charging for online play wouldn't go down well in the public opinion, even more so with it being made for a "promise" of a better online experience, it kinda contradicts itself.

    Edit* I gave a proper read to John post and saw that it was for an additional service, in that case then for those willing to pay it would be fine I guess? Though I don't think it would get many people on board.

    If this is supposed to imply that the current weather system is anywhere near iRacing, it's sadly a shot into their own face.

    Wet line is only there in theory, puddles are far too violent on low speeds on both wets and dries, the execution is incredibly unflexible with the forced one hour weather slots, you can only customize four weather slots in total, track evolution is for whatever reason tied to accelerating the frequency of weather changes ... it's second by a large margin as it is currently, especially because it can be only properly used in very long races cause of the less than optimal one hour thing in combination with the less than optimal weather changes=same acceleration as track changes thing.

    The gradual way of track development in AMS2 in theory allows for short bursts of rain, but it's impossible to set them up despite them happening often in real life.


    Also, the AI is definitely not handling it any better than in iRacing, being especially far too quick on slicks in the wet still and making zero more mistakes even in suddenly changing weather.

    There is also the fact that the AMS2 system is barely usable online because sometimes everyone gets different puddles for some reason.

    IRacing has leapt ahead so far here that I'd say it's currently not even remotely close to a competition.

    Agreed with one correction: you can set weather to fit race length, so a one hour race with four slots will result 15 minutes long weather slots.

    Yeah, but this setting works the same as a weather acceleration. Weather slots in this game are always 1 hour long. Any weather change that happens quicker does that by being accelerated in some way.

    For whatever reason, weather acceleratio also accelerates the track state so it dries out and gets wet 4x as quick as it would if you had the setting on "real time".Track state shouldn't get accelerated because of the weather acceleration as this all but eliminates the most interesting transition phases, but it's sadly the system we have in the sim.

    gave iR a go last night/today haven't touched it in a long time. The weather system is honestly really impressive. The forecasting, visuals, ability to really script the weather and the physical effect itself it's kinda crazy.

    owh and the fact that the performance impact is like minimal. I was honestly shocked that it was performing better than AMS2 in VR.

    The only thing where AMS 2 is more advanced is the realtrack, where i.e. puddles can be spread by cars, track can get dirty by dirt being dragged onto the surface by cars, turning to mud when it get wet.... Also the prograssion from dry->wet->dry feels correctly paced, with clear visual distinction between dry and wet.

    But the whole system is so hamstrung by the rigidity of the weather slots, it is never fully utilized.
    Also IRacing seems to be the only sim where you can visually see the weather approaching, it is not just some clouds appearing out of thin air, as it get darker. You can see you're driving into the weather long before you get there.

    Yes, visually AMS 2 rain looks better, but honestly, I care much more about what I can do with the system, and how it drivers... and in this regard IRacing looks to be better. And I say that as someone who doesn't play iracing.

    The weather slot is 15 minutes, but the amount of waterfall is scaled. So you get 1 hour of rain in 15 minutes.
