"Generic" models in general are a complete showstopper to me.
The DTM saw various Fords, including a Mustang, various Opels including the fwd Opel Kadett GSi and Toyota Supras, Alfa Romeos etc. It was never a series that only included german Manufacturers.

As I understand the basic method, you basically have to render the scene from the point of view of every shadow casting light, and store the distance to the nearest thing it hit (basically, you need a z-buffer for each light). How many pixel this render is is the shadow map resolution (less pixels equals faster, but pixelated shadows)

When doing the main pass, you translate this map to the main view camera space, and then compute the distance between each pixel and the light, if the distance is bigger, than the distance stored in the map, then pixel is obscured by something -> is in shadow....

This is obviously computation heavy, so you try to limit the number of shadow casting lights, and also number of objects that have to be rendered for each light. There also ways to optimize it, i.e. if you have a static scene, with static lights, then you can calculate and store the shadow maps when editing the scene (shadow baking)...

There were other techniques, like stencil shadows (heavily used in doom 3), but those have their own limitation, i.e. hard time with transparent surfaces, or lack of soft shadows.

Yes I though it would be something like this. Interesting questions!

I get you, but if we could have "fake" or nothing, I'd take fake in this instance. Similar to Formula Classic for example, yes it would be great to have full official roster but what we have is better than void.

to be fair a generic car for open wheelers kinda do get the job done as most f1 cars from a similar era do have very similar body chapes

But for touring cars or gt’s it doesn’t work the same way and the generic v8 super car we have in AMS 2 proves that, the current model fit well with Holden liveries but put a falcon livery on it or something like that Nissan or Volvo livery on it and it doesn’t look quite right

it’s like putting Ferrari liveries on let’s say the C8R it looks weird

This is my last push for the shadows, but this encounter last night was too good to not take another screenshot. Again, everything is set to ultra... upload_2024-7-4_16-6-59.png

They came a few years later but not many: the first 155 DTM in 1993 actually raced against the last 190E and M3 E30 which we have as Gr. A, though it was undoubtably a new generation of cars compared to its rivals

Mostly I agree, but I would happily see some generic prototypes, at a slightly less competitive level than the branded ones. For Group C, I'd happily see a couple that represent manufacturers like Spice that bulked up many grids. And if they did 1970s Group 6, id happily see a couple of generics to fill in for Lolas, Chevrons and the like.

Good point it also works fine with certain prototypes eras

So... what are the chances of a blessing today? It's been "a few days" and it's also a Friday. Plus the bird intestines I inspected this morning looked good

A 'few days’ in Reiza time means two weeks, so I won’t start the F5 ritual yet.
