A bug I’ve noticed, and I’m not sure it’s a 1.6 exclusive thing: when setting up championships, I set time progression to 20x and weather progression to Real Time, however after saving the championship it gets changed back to “Sync to Race,” obviously not helpful if I’m doing a rain race and 20 minutes worth of water fall on the track in 60 seconds.

On that note, someone on the forum remarked at one of Renato’s preview vids that Rain and Time progression don’t appear to be linked anymore (not trying to blame them, we were all just a bit excited) but some tests seem to disprove that - any chance I could get some official word on if this really has changed or not/if I need to reinstall?

Let's clarify this a bit John:)

you have 2 Automobilista 2 folders , the primary game folder sits in your steam/Steamapps/common folder. This does not store graphic, audio or control settings.

The one you want sits in your Documents folder and is called Automobilista 2.
To reset all of your settings (graphics, audio, controls) and start from scratch you would normally simply delete this folder. When the game starts the next time it will recreate this folder for you with all default settings. You will then need to go and setup everything again. In your controller settings in the game make sure you select custom as the controller before trying to setup all the buttons etc again.

What Marius was trying to get you to do was to keep a copy of the original Automobilista 2 folder in documents by right click copying it and pasting it somewhere else on your computer in case you wanted to go back to your old settings at anytime. If you do want to keep the original it is easier to simply right click on it and rename it to Automobilista2OLD. This way it stays in the documents folder but a new one will be created when your start the game.

With what i am reading (no offence) your IT skills are quite low so it may be simpler to just do the delete of the folder and let the game recreate it and go and setup everything from scratch.

I have just done a quick test and can confirm Renato that rain and weather progression are no longer linked.
With a 60x accelerated (one weather slot only takes about 1 minute) Thunderstorm the track surface got from dry to moist/damp and I was still able to drive with slicks.
Before 1.6 it was like 1 hour of heavy rain within 1 minute. The track would be soaked within seconds and wouldn't be driveable even with wet tires.

I thought that was fixed ? Shouldn't it currently be where in 20 minutes you will get actually 20 minutes worth of water ?

Follow up question on this. If you start over again by deleting the documents folder, does this allow you to get a new ranking?

I thought so, but in my experiments “sync to race” will dump precipitous rain (pardon.)
However I did another experiment in Test Day matching the weather progression to the time progression (I.e. 20x and 20x) and that provided the weather effect I wanted.
so Sync to Race appears to be the troublesome option. Still trying to wrap my brain around how the weather progression works but I’ll probably be avoiding that.

TC turned out to be the source of all my problems with too much grip. I had turned it off or had chosen a car without TC, and I had a LOADS of fun yesterday. I love this sim now, thank you guys for your help.

How the weather works now is that is synced to Time acceleration, sync to race doesn't affect the ammount of precipitation like it did before.
    Example:

30 Minute race with 3 weather slots (Dry, Rain, Dry) Time acceleration x1
Rain will start at aproximately 10 minutes and it will rain for 10 minutes. Ammount of precipitation will be worth 10 minutes of rain (Rain level makes the ammount of water increase)

30 Minute race with 3 weather slots (Dry, Rain, Dry) Time acceleration x5
Rain will start at aproximately 10 minutes and it will rain for 10 minutes. Ammount of precipitation will be worth 50 minutes of rain (Rain level makes the ammount of water increase)

Anything else than this should be reported since its not normal

Before the 1.6 UI update you could enable a UI element in the replay where you can see who you are currently watching, the car ahead and their gap and the car behind and their gap. Why was this element completely removed ?

Also previously the name on the left who you are watching right now used to be highlighted, now it isn't, there is only an extremely faint shadow behind the driver's name of who you are spectating and i wonder why was this done when it was so much better before ?

I hope this will be re-added and also fixed in a future update.

I haven't tested it but I don't think that will feel good.
Example of 1h15m race of 24h Le Mans. Time accelerated 20x (full day/night cycle) and weather synced to race:
With a GT3 Gen2 you almost need 4 minutes for a lap so that would be 80 minutes of rain. If you just pass the pitbox when it starts to drizzle you will have very hard lap in front of you.

Correct. It is a current limitation on how the wet track is working, time accelerated to 20x will make the rain 20 times higher than it should be. First thing Reiza has done is separate the wet track from the previous 1h chunks that it was linked to, right now is tied to time acceleration, for now I would avoid having the scenario you posted, since the track will be wet in no time, in future cycles the idea is to create a separate wet track acceleration so that we can control this better, but for now, it works like I posted.

No, I believe your ranking is linked to your online login, nothing to do with the documents folder

Ah, ok. I’ve been hoping the track/time separation would be possible in the new update but looks like there’s still work to do for Reiza. Guess I’ll have to save rain races for Real-time sessions for the time being. Thanks for illuminating.

Yesterday I did just that (a 30 min race with 3 slots, "Rain" being the second, using "Sync to Race", no time acceleration) and this is not what happened: to my surprise it started raining at 3 minutes 30 secs. I don't remember for how long but I think it was longer than 10 mins, possibly 15.

Rain is randomized in some way, it wont fall exactly at the 10 minute mark.

To quote myself a little bit, from my testing it seems like Rain progresses to the point selected. So if we get the previous 30 min as an example, if the rain setting we chose is Storm, it wont go from Dry to Storm in the 10 minute mark, it will start by light rain followed by then more intense rain and finally proper storm, how long will it take to arrive and when it will begin it's partially random, how random idk, but it could begin at 5 minutes just spitting a little, and then progresing to storm. Track conditions such as temperature will affect how wet the track will get and how quickly, so a hotter track takes longer to wet because water evaporates and so on.
Currently however slick tyres have too much grip on the rain, which sucks since it kinda spoils the fun of having to be quick to enter the pits at the right time.

Good point, but I'd check Max's laptime in AMS2. I think it wouldn't be 1:14.xxx. But who knows, of course... Does anyone know Max's laptimes in iRacing compared to the same tracks IRL?
(Sorry for being off topic. I can't delete the message :( )

I think Max doesn't drive the F1 car in iracing since I believe he said he didn't like it, but here in this video Max's lap is 0.1 seconds faster than the current GT3 qualy record, afaik
