    I generally pay zero attention to YT sim racing influencers, but just discovered one I now have a high level of respect for. Sorry for all those who already know about this, but it's relevant for the IMSA content/this thread.

    This video is a really nice explanation of GT versus open wheeler driving styles...best short and simple explanation I have seen and tackles the topic of why it's often difficult to switch back and forth between one category and another.


    The second video, here because some of it should be interesting to those who enjoy the IMSA and prototype vehicles, but is also, by far, the best "constructive criticism" I have seen from a real racer talking about a sim. It's LMU, but that's not the point. If we ever find this sort of detail and care taken with AMS 2, please post for all of us to learn!

    Nice. I like his comparisons from RL to simulation, he gives more attention to the areas that I often wonder about.

    I openly admit i suck at open wheel cars except for the slower beginner cars. Door cars i have no problem going fast in. But i think that first video opened my eyes to why. I try to drive them basically the same as far as my lines go. Thanks for posting that.

    Highlighted pretty good in this video here.

    While 1.6 been a massive step forward I fully agree with James Baldwin here, that "drifty" feeling is still there. I think this clip right here shows exactly the issue, just look how wheel is pointing and how much that car yaws and how the tyres squeal during the corner. Any other sim and onboarding during those high speed corners the car just grips and goes where you are pointing it. Now the car can still dance on the tyres on the limit obviously, but the way the whole car just yaws and slides in AMS 2 is like anything else I'v ever seen on onboards or in sims.

    I really hope Reiza can crack this nut in the future!

    In the meantime i believe, that we are "overdriving" the car and thats why there is this feeling. I now have fourd the sweetspot in my FFB setting. I am able to feel the tires gripping the asphalt much more then before and therefore am able to "hold" the speed at that level in a corner. Makes a big difference! But yes, the "grip feeling" of the tires could be more pronounced. The tire squeeling sound could be imroved as well. To me the 125cc go kart has that sound and grip feel i expect with the cars with slicks.

    Well yeah this happens when you are on the limit but what about his driving is "overdriving" he's close to WR and you don't get that by "overdriving" a car. And this has nothing to do with FFB, the ffb is great in my opinion.

    The issue is what he's mentioning and what you can see just by the onboard, that sliding behaviour and the feeling like the whole rear is turning on you but the front is just static.

    Just remember it was made with previous tyre model for these cars, he used an unknown Random Set up that had max engine breaking and over sensitive steering and an unknown and probably not ideal FFB configuration.
    the engine braking information guide even says in its description, this is largely user preference… and is more or less set somewhere in the middle .

    I tend to increase ( reduce effect ) a couple of clicks myself, but even with Default set up I was able to just about keep up with his time -1.3 secs and lose 0.6 of that in final sector without low drag .

    With a set up bmw I’m only a few tenths away . ( considered the slowest car )
    And definitely wasn’t over driving , more trying to be as precise as possible right on the edge of grip and trying to not induce much yaw that would overcome it .
    I’m not an Alien or E-sports guy , I race weekly with guys faster than me .

    the crux is , if he actually tried to set the car up himself from default and sorted his FFB out , ( even though E-sports guys don’t tend to rely on it ) he should be good enough to set a better time by driving it properly.

    I like James , and his reviews, and passing knowledge of experience , but he really didn’t do a great job with this one .

    If you haven't tried it yet, increase the rear TOE value (reduces rear instability when turning in), slightly soften the rear ARB (helps the rear stay stable mid-corners), and reduce the number of clutches (smoothens the car's behavior on exit). This will completely eliminate the lively feel at the rear wheels and make the car feel like it's on rails. Additionally, I believe the GT3/GT4 and GTE classes have had this effect completely eliminated after the latest patch.

    I also think AMS2 does a fantastic job of simulating both car physics and driving dynamics. It just takes a bit of tweaking and a bit of an engineer’s mindset—understanding the setup and fine-tuning it—to get the driving feel close to perfection. This is actually what I love about AMS2: every adjustment to the car’s setup has a noticeable impact. Combined with the simulation of track temperature, tire behavior, and driving style, everything works seamlessly together, making it an incredibly enjoyable experience.

    One very misleading aspect of grip-loss in AMS2 is related to tire-noise. The tire-scrub sounds engage abruptly and much too early. The sounds suggest way more slip angle is occurring than the physical & visual aspects support. This is also very evident in replay mode.

    Yes, they should tune it down. I set the tire sound to the 35% and sounds okay.

    I'd be surprised if they're not planning to overhaul it, thats my guess as to why they're not doing anything with it atm

    A lower default setting would likely be good for the majority. The rest of us who like lots of feedback can move it higher ;)

    I would agree in general however, the Scrub-sound is really pretty bad as it is currently. In replays, it can be heard - almost 100% of the time with some cars (with the slightest turn of the wheel). Onboard is not as obvious but still overbearing in many cases. It may be less so when using HP-mix but, the mode-switching occurs on Sebring and I'm just not a fan of the muffled engine sounds (Even if it better represents wearing a helmet).

    I do think it will get sorted eventually but, it's also hard for me to ignore the scrub-noise (Almost like fingernails on a chalkboard). ;)

    Why do some associate tyre scrub with grip loss , it is not grip loss , it is a precursor to it, it is when the tyre is under duress and being strained and scratched across the track surface . But there’s still grip during it .
    It can tell you when the tire is going to be suffering the most wear and generating the most heat on surface of tire . .

    I tend to agree.
    There is ALWAYS tire scrub when cornering anywhere near the limit of adhesion.
    If not, your not pushing.

    Does not mean you have lost adhesion.

    I was also a bit disappointed to see this feature removed. Maybe with tire hysteresis it is not as easy as it used to be to implement an acceleration factor. Still, I hope it comes back soon, because before the update you could add a strategic element to even "short" one hour races. Now with the GT3 Gen 2 it makes no sense to change tires, even if you have to stop for fuel anyway, because the small amount of wear on the old tires will cost you less time than a lap on cold tires.

    On the plus side, the rain is now working for our group, as it does not completely flood the track within half a lap, even when using tiny weather slots. We are also closer to the AI, although we cannot yet change its wet skill level (this would also be nice to have online). So this is a major benefit of the update, along with the improved AI and the track map.

    I don't know how many people race in small, rather casual groups, but if you don't want to do multi-hour races but still want tire strategy to be a part of the race, the accelerated tire wear feature was great. I'd really appreciate it if it came back in the near future.

    Of course, tire-scrub noise does not mean complete loss of adhesion but, the scrub noise should be variable in nature and gradual leading up to grip-loss or the tire-squeal phase. As it is, I can clearly hear it at almost no slip-angle in some cases.

    running default sound settings , headphone mix on, and just master volume lowered to levels I can still hear discord voice well enough , I barely even notice it to be honest. It’s only an underlying sound and goes hand in hand with what I feel from the tyre through wheel , which is the stronger point of sense for me personally.
