Please tell me, in formula hitech gen2, which as far as I understand is a reflection of the 1993 cars, the presence of DRS is indicated, is this some kind of error, or am I not understanding something?

The "DRS" button lowers the rear suspension to stall the underfloor and reduce drag.
It is in essence a real drag reduction system. It just works differently than in modern cars.

It was a real thing, it's not like, a mistake on the part of the developers, they just used a modern 'name' that was already in the game to refer to it - easier on the HUD and easier on the button menu.

I have had regular crashes that i didn't experience with the short testings i have done.
Switching to different Proton versions didn't help. So i decided to delete the whole config directory
and could drive about 15 minutes before quitting. So that might have helped.

I think, a lot has been said, it starts to become repetitive at this point and indeed drags along a bit. The vision of what is targeted is clear and potentially not to everyones liking (while i read stuff here that doesn't make sense for the direction some changes have taken, but doesn't matter).

Debating about how unrealistic sim A is vs. sim B isn't really wanted here. There are preferences on each side and it just leads to chaos at the end of the day.

For more discussions of that samey stuff (referencing outdated info already happened now, so we're not in the realm of 1.6.5 even) about your preferences in handling please try this thread, so this one here does not get hijacked by banging on the same topic in circles over 3 pages. Thanks!

So of the few car classes I have tried that have had tweaks to the tires, the GTE's seem the best by far. A much greater level of grip transitions can be felt with all the cars in this class vs others.

I am interested to know why this might be and if this level of feel can be obtained in other classes?

My guess would be that its not necessarily about the tires alone, but something else about the GTE's that allows a greater feel for the levels of grip that somehow the other classes don't translate as well.

Please continue here for further physics discussion, the post has been moved and i ask everyone to follow up there:

    Physic discussion thread

These long walls of text start to fill up this thread and don't really add much to the updates discussion.

Btw.: You state your disliking in a very stylistic manner with a lot of attitude, this feedback isn't really what i'd call being made in good faith, unless you think the "LOL" and constant caps emphasis does it any favour. I'm sure you'd reach more people by toning that down a little.

I'd like to share my opinion on the road effect, or the new shader. At least in VR, it now feels like the track is wet, even when it's not. I think it's due to reflections or specular light not sure exactly. I do like that we can see a "line" more clearly, but it still needs a bit of tweaking to give a more correct impression. (before was better in a "immersion perspective", now something looks off)

I don't think it has been mentioned yet, so nothing missed :)

V1.6.5.1 just went live now - this is a hotfix to the latest update correcting the more pressing bugs intrroduced with it and also bringing a few further fixes and improvements to AMS2.

Some performance issues with AMD hardware have been addressed as have issues with flickering foliage and other minor visual oddities introduced with the latest shader updates; the game should also again launch fine from third party apps.

    V1.6.5.1 CHANGELOG

    GENERAL
    • Reduced the painted track detail offset to reduce overlap with vehicle tyres while still avoiding Z-fighting on large tracks
    • Reverted WIP development to aero flaps causing some existing cars equipped with DRS to malfunction
    • Reverted the damp track racing line visual changes which created some edge cases that caused the track to look too reflective
    • Fixed Shader causing flickering on Radeon GPUs.
    • Relaxed threshold for track limit violations in previous lap to invalidate the next lap in all non-TT game modes

    UI & HUD
    • Fixed Test Day keyboard/controller menu navigation layout
    • Added graphics option to enable/disable LOD Fading (defaults to OFF)
    • Removed excess vertical padding from livery selection dialog (also prevents double activation when closing the dialog)

    PHYSICS
    • Further minor adjustments to tread friction fade with velocity for all compounds to LMDh / GTP, LMP2 (both gens), P1 (both gens)
    • Adjusted GT Open carcass bend stiffness
    • Cadillac DPi: Minor center of gravity height & diffuser adjustments; Corrected fuel tank size being 1L oversized; Moved default brake bias slightly rearwards
    • GT1: Revised Nissan GT1 aero efficiency
    • Oreca 07 (All models): Corrected front camber adjustment range asymmetry (no setup reset required)
    • Metalmoro AJR Nissan V6: Corrected missing TC & ABS aids in authentic mode

    AI
    • Adjusted AI downforce bias, peak slip angles, mechanical grip & AI lateral movement rates for better high speed stability & less erractic AI movements in F-Vintage, F-Retro, F-Classic, F-HiTech, Group C& GT3 classes
    • Further adjustments to AI lateral movement rates for F-Retro Gen1, F-Classics, GT3s
    • Sigma P1 G5: Reduced AI DRS drag scalar to mitigate risks of AI veering off track following front DRS activation
    • Adjusted AI dynamic corridors for Bathurst 1983, Silverstone 1975, Taruma Chicane

    AUDIO
    • Fixed wall reflections and missing engine samples for Sigma P1 and Ginetta G58.

    VEHICLES
    • GT3 Gen2: Added livery override support for yellow/white headlights; updated yellow headlights textures
    • F-Reiza: Minor adjustment to cockpit POV height

Just to be clear on this, does this mean just more drag or is downforce also increased in return?

Did something change with regards to MSAA in 1.6.5.1 compared to before? Because AA is way batter now and specular aliasing seems to have been significantly reduced. Was it broken before?
    Using a Radeon RDNA2 GPU.

This was the tree flickering issue caused by the new LOD foliage introduced in 1.6.5 not MSAA related AFAIK.
Anti Aliasing looks better now in 1.6.5.1 than in 1.6.4

What is LOD fading doing? I would like to understand so that I can decide to better turn it on or off for me. Thanks.

As you get closer to trees and grass, the quality of the textures improves by loading new images with higher resolution. Rather than just using the new textures as soon as they have loaded, which can cause a jar in the rendering, it can now fade in to the new texture.
