I think your problem is somewhere else. I'm on the latest Win10 update and AMS works as it should. Of course i had some problems (freezes) a few...
Just for info ..... my league race this evening went without any problems. No freezes with latest Nvidia driver 388.59.
I wouldn't expect big new features for AMS, because v1.5 is the final version. But possibly the current AMS could be a test bed for the successor....
My AMS was just working fine with Nvidia driver 3.85.xx. But my Win10 Home has automatically updated my Nvidia graphics driver about 2 weeks ago...
Track & Layout Used: Kansai Full (but any track with a long straight) Car Used: MetalMoro AJR (Engine: Honda K20 Turbo) with default car setup...

I can only speak for myself, but my answer would be a Yes.:p Graphics ARE important. It's one part of the simracing package to get full immersion....
Maybe it sounds strange, but i'm very happy about the current physics and FFB. AMS feels so natural and intuitive to me, that it doesn't need...
Well ...... there is a replay bar in AMS. It's just not very obvious. I don't have a screenshot by hand. It's in the menu where the replay is...

This! And i would recommend to lower FOV in small steps, and not in single big one. Lower the FOV about 5 degrees and drive with it 1-2 days....

The Time Trail Challenge was a huge success, if you look at the large number of participants. Regarding Automobilista, i think we are all winners....
