Winterbottom: The key to making Gen3 paddle shift work - Speedcafe
    IMG_20210316_132332.jpg
V8SC going to paddles and lossing the round D shaped rim.

Didn't know Winterbottom drove the Stock car Brazil!

But a nice insight into driving the Stock Car

"The Brazil cars have got paddle shift, but they don’t have auto-blip, so you have to actually still blip it on downshift,” Winterbottom explained, speaking with Speedcafe.com.

“I’m right-foot braking in it. Some left-foot brake, some right-foot brake. Where if it was like a GT car, you just purely left foot brake.

“It felt very similar; clutch in, shift down. You can’t shift too quickly because it skips gears and you’ve just got to be a bit slower where our gearbox is a lot quicker.

“The actual feeling with the feet, it’s a bit slower, but it’s the same technique which I thought was really good, which is why you adapt so quickly to it.”

Have you been using the clutch on down shifts? I know i wasn't, just blipping  AMS2 should punish those who don't!! ATM its to forgiving.

They Heel&toe to save the gearbox a bit more. You don't have to heel&toe, actually.

(He also pumps the brakes to counter knockback, another thing, that you don't need to do, which no sim yet features and when it would be implemented i can already see the "it's broken" posts :D)

Always! And with plenty double de'clutching. I even use h-pattern instead of the flappy paddle things. :D

I heel and toe just fine on other cars but with this being a sequential i just was giving it a blip on down shift, not using the clutch at all. That's changed now ;) I blip with all sequential cars even if not required but never been using the clutch on them, only H pattern cars.

@TekNeil I even use h-pattern instead of the flappy paddle things.
I use H pattern for H pattern cars, paddles for paddle cars and H pattern for H pattern cars, that's why I love my SQ1.5 because its just a flick of the switch and its a H pattern for other cars like the Omega but AMS2 is to easy and forgiving on clutchless shifting and rev matching isn't even really required.

Maybe a language issue, but what is meant with knockback?
The only thing what I can imagine, is to pump the brakes to set the bracking pads into "right" position near to the discs to have full braking force and pressure. Something I had to do with my old Mercedes Benz 190E, after some driving with no braking there was always a 'long' brake pedal way till the pads were on the disc. With pumping before braking this could be avoided and you had a better feeling in braking.

    Spot-on!^^

The brake pads can go out of their position, when hitting bumps and kerbs etc. and provide a long pedal, which makes braking less effective and precise on first application. To counteract this, racing drivers are also pumping their brakes on straights. Something, that i still would like to see for racing simulations until today! :)

It is when the piston gets "knocked back" by the disc, especially with heat cycled discs the dics can warp causing a oscillation pushing the piston back in turn making the pedal go away and needing pumping. At speed you dont want a soft pedal so the preemptive pump is for reassurance that its there.

Ninja'd with more and possibly better explanation
