Well... Much to my surprise I have started chapter 12 in Niki Lauda's book titled "To Hell And Back".
Prior to chapter 12 I found it very interesting reading as Niki describes how he is racing as he describes driving technique with strategy. This surprised me as I too in the sim, in my little sim world did very similar things due to the similar situation but I thought it was just me doing what I do cause maybe I don't know very much and don't really know how to really drive cause I've never been in a race car. So what am I doing? I was actually pleased to learn that this information is very much related and I was not so far off in my ignorant mind within the subject.
But chapter 12 is titled "From 400 to 1000 Horsepower Formula 1, 1972-1985
This became really interesting as he describes car set up, a subject I have been trying to learn more about based on all my ignorance. There's a whole lot of information here he describes that is related to any sim that provides any of these adjustments to the car. Just seems pretty fun here as I have been searching within the sim world for some of these answers or questions.

I can only hope that you do not suffer the same fate fire-wise :( but yes it's so rewarding to learn things from real drivers. I don't think this was really feasible for sim racing for most of its life, with exception perhaps of Geoff Crammond games.

What are Geoff Crammond games? I've been into Sim racing for about two years now. I'm building quite a rig. I suppose too a lot of avenues have increased via technology
I used to fly DCS world and I enjoyed fighter jets but once I got bit by the Sim Race Bug I hung up my wings.
My overall favorite track is probably as Niki referred to it as "The Ring" Nurburgring Nordschleife
Very challenging. I've become quite familiar with it and I am flying through it so much better. Nut I don't think I could try this in real life on such a track, even if I was younger. Younger... maybe safely and smartly, but some of those legendary racers and even people we never really heard of can haul ass on that course. The long course. It's been shortened up to about 12.5 KM
I have read where it used to be a bit longer? I'd hate to burn too like Williamson at Zandfoort 1973 or 76? They didn't even bother to tip the car over until the race was finished. Different times.

This I think is a Geoff Crammond Formula One game
The music is a cheap synth version of the theme used at the beginning of (at least in Britain) F1 broadcasts at the time. This is the racing game my Dad had when i was like, 4, and i remember not liking it because it was too hard. It was considered insanely realistic, and was designed by Geoff Crammond (and others, I assume). He went on to build a brand around his name, GP4 is considered the pinnacle I believe. The amazing thing is that this game (GP1) had all the then relevant tracks for the formula 1 season- many of these are now "historical" tracks available in AMS2!

Man, I loved that game. Got it in 1991 for the Amiga 500 when I was 11 years old and was totally blown away. My first sim so to speak. It's a milestone for this genre. Later I got it also for my first PC and was overwhelmed by 25 fps (instead of the slideshow on the Amiga).

Just look how far we've come.
