AMS2 - User Livery Overrides

It seems like all of the new effects have been revamped...

There's a new parameter...

Checking on my current liveries it doesn't seem that the lack of a PAINT texture does anything... The fact that they are labelled the same as the BODY makes it more confusing...

I wanted to change the Tom Oliphant 2018 BTCC livery to the GreenMetallic but just adding that line with the BODY texture does nothing when the BASELIVERY is set to GreenMetallic...

EDIT: Figured out Metallic, you have to treat the parts you want as GreenMetalic/BlueMetallic/RedMetallic as you would a Matte section in the alpha channel...

 

So basically this is similar to how Assetto Corsa handles Spec Maps, i.e. it uses RGB values to determine how much reflection/highlight/ambient light there is on any given pixel? Interesting, going to try and tinker around with it, though it seems about 3x more complex (literally)

aside: Glad to see the MetalMoro AJRs finally have shader access now, along with the C8R.

In basic terms yes, there's just differences in how it's done... Instead of the spec controlling the levels of chrome/paint/matte it controls the colour of the shine... Whilst the fresnel file controls the chrome or paint and the alpha channel on the paint/body file controls metallic or matte...

Ok another car that is impossible to make a preview for...

The 2022 F1 cars just do not get near a preview shot... This is the closest it gets and it cuts off the front wing...



I really thought I had a decent amount of patience for this skinning thing, but these previews ugh... They have really shown me that getting what I want on a skin right means so much more to me than I realised...

Kudos to anyone who has the time and patience to run through to the 3rd cycle where this angle shows for me... I guess some get it on the first cycle, but even so it takes a few good minutes to get one and it seems the angles get shuffled each time you move in and out of the showroom... Doing a full grid must take an hour...

 

Predefined camera angles in the showroom would accelerate the process of making previews so much, I hope this will someday be available.

 

At least, the devs gave us the opportunity to add liveries and driver names/skills (and pretty soon also helmets) to the game quite easily which is no matter of course nowadays.

 

I'll be happy once we can change the driver suit and pit crew...

Then I'll be asking for track skins... Or should that come before since the files and folders are there but don't do anything and no documentation on them can be found...

So many possibilities yet to come...

 

I have already tried to change the banners on the tracks back then in 2020 by unpacking the files, bring in my dds and repacking again, but the game will crash when loading a race. Altered track textures are obviously regarded as some kind of cheat.

as long as there is no automated distribution of this files like in iRacing with trading paints as long its only useful for screenshots and leagues.

 

tried those ages ago, they do nothing... and they still sitting in my folder hoping to do something one day lol.

Same here for the same track... The fact this exists thought shows that one day we can and that it's far from considered a cheat but a feature that isn't activated yet...

Does anyone else have to close and reopen AMS2 in order to see changes made to skins? Prior to that I just had to overwrite the .dds, get out of the showroom to main menu and reenter the showroom to see the updated skin without quitting AMS2.
