One of my friends got a Creative SXFI Gamer headset which is able to decode 5.1/7.1 surround from almost any game to the headphones using some advanced HTRF personalisation to destribute a pretty realistic virtual 7.1 surround.
After hearing it with a test personalisation exactly for me (photos of my face and ears) Im about to figure out if I should abandon my pretty reasonable Creative/Auzentech soundcard and get this USB headphones instead.;)

I recently bought a Sound BlasterX G6 soundcard with the goal to use 5.1 audio.

Once the driver got installed I have some sort of "virtual 5.1". I am using the optical output and USB input for the card.

What do I have to do in order to get "true" 5.1 working with AMS2?

    Best regards,
    Herakles

don't lose time, and don't lose time, u'll even have people with soundbar that they will say u that they use 5.1..
i give u an example: install lemans ultimante (the bugged game eheh) and u'll see that ur not the problem and the problem is ams2
i try a lot of sound card, computers and speakers, i've access to many pc gaming and there's no solution.. u can even by urself disconnect the cable from the right speakers and u'll see that when u have a car behind u, u'll hear also from the front speakers

IIRC, "Virtual 5.1 / 7.1" is intended for Headphones. Check your settings in the Creative App and change output to Speakers (for Wi-Fi system) and also the decoding options. Let the Wi-Fi system handle decoding and see what happens. If you connect Headphones, try direct to the G6 and select Headphones + Virtual 5.1 or 7.1 and test.

I find that the SB audio works very good using headphones with Direct Mode enabled in the Creative App. That gives very accurate game audio as intended by the sound-engineers. The virtual surround options (Creative App) appear to be bugged currently, though.

Thanks to all of you guys!

I have a Yamaha amplifier connected via optical cable, this amplifier supports 5.1 sound. Five speakers are connected to the amplifier as well as a subwoofer. So I wouldn't want any "virtual" headphone surround sound, the intention is to have "real" 5.1.

I will try to play even more around with the Creative App (which is odd, too as there are two different apps available on their webpage, why so confusing???), as Dean told me to.

Will report if I get on with this - in the mean time: any other suggestions?

To be honest - I bought this soundcard just for the sole purpose of playing AMS2 with 5.1...

Having looked at the product website, I don't think it will output 5.1, in the Tech Spec it says "Max Channels: Stereo". It seems that the G6 will take a 5.1 or 7.1 and through psychoacoustic processing try and create the correct impression on a stereo output.

In regard to 2 different software options, I'm guessing the G6 would use the older version (Command version) and the G8 uses the new Creative App version. I'm sorry if I caused any confusion there.
