I haven't changed this specific parameter yet in any of your files, but ill give it a try. It might not be the most accurate description.

This version is much worse for me. I had to raise that simplified road FX setting ridiculously high to get any real road detail at all, and my wheel is also loose and numb around the centre again.

A bad bug had made its way in to this newest one, sorry guys.
    New one will come later.

Please don't use it... At all... "Easy does it" is broken, avoid.

@Karsten Hvidberg the stock_rack_lfb_bias" to 0.3 or 0.0 variation, you meant for me to test that on this new file or the old one that i just sent you, the old one right?

Actually both have bugs, I have just found.
    So don't bother.
I will ask when we have something else to try on.

    Thanks

For all you FFB junkies try this.

It's moving back to using LFB but adjusting the gamma for macro and micro details separately. This should fix the issues with how details were being split out and recombined. It also has the benefit of using the LFB function so the road detail will also be controllable through the LFB slider. To control how much each component is being boosted edit these:

    Code:
    # Gamma values for rack
    # Range 0.0 - 0.2
    (macro_gamma 0.03)
    (micro_gamma 0.15)
macro_gamma controls the main rack forces and micro_gamma the fine details.

The benefit of using the lfb function is that if you have a high spike in the detail component it won't get blown out.

    EDIT:
Having thought about it this is setup for a DD wheel where we want to boost the details but not the macro forces. So I'll post 2 sets, one for DD and one for Belt.

Edit 2: Here's a quick stab at making one for belt wheels as a starting point. Basically reversed the gamma values for if you are using high LFB slider settings. Compare the 2 files and tweak a little, see what works.

Guys, I am only going to say one small thing because you know I love the "research" being done here: rabbit hole.

Unless you are sure you have optimized FFB from the Default Reiza profile, it will be incredibly difficult to compare what is improved or changed. I read a lot of people just by-passing that essential first step and leaping directly to tweaking the custom files. So now, instead of three sliders, we have three sliders plus many individual variables and let's not forget the majority of people NOT using strictly default control panel or wheel settings so there is external distortion/filtering occurring before AMS 2 even gets there. Literally millions of combinations and permutations.

You can ignore me, but the vast majority should be able to get more than acceptable FFB with Default. If you don't have it, odds are it is because you haven't yet (or refuse to) balanced the basic sliders. This is a bit tricky and Reiza has provided little guidance or support (compared to the phenomenal helpfulness in this thread). Some small tweaking via custom files will be helpful because different hardware responds differently and boosting something a bit here or lowering something a bit there will always be a welcome last resort. Otherwise, we're just trading-off improvements in one area for losses in another (if the baseline was optimized in the first place). One very simple example of this is road surface noise that so many want/need to increase on their DD wheels. How can my lowly old belt wheel have more than enough road noise when reasonable LFB and FX are used? I can't imagine how severe it could be on a DD wheel...unless those wheels are somehow already diminishing the effects via some setting somewhere in the chain.

Just be careful to not solve a basic issue that requires a screwdriver with a complex process that needs an entire toolbox (of knowledge and settings).

@2ndLastJedi I removed a lot of the road noise by reducing road rumbling scale ( line 86 if you're using notepad ++).

You have described the JackSpadification of FFB, a process where everyone is making its own FFB and declaring it muuuch better than the default. Not sure this is good thing as it dilutes everything. The stock FFB should be good. I do not want to spend my whole time tweaking it, which apparently seems to be a metagame of its own where you can lose literally an afternoon 'tweaking FFB'.

On the contrary, the fact that there are just three in-game sliders for FFB adjustment could well mean people are more likely to try a whole host of settings before resorting to a custom profile. I for one am using custom profiles as a last resort, because the "optimal" default FFB on my wheel still feels crap. If someone like me, who is willing to spend hours of my time tweaking to get great feeling FFB, still comes up short with the default profile, then what hope does the average user have?

Reiza have pushed me, and others, down this route because for us the default FFB has gone backwards over the last few patches instead of forwards.

Then don't. The beauty of custom profiles is that they're completely optional, not mandatory. If you're happy with the default profile and it's three sliders, then that's genuinely great. I wish I could say the same.

Last update for tonight as it's my wedding anniversary and she'll get annoyed lol!

I tried turning down my wheel strength so I could run high gain and LFB. I think this feels pretty good so I'll post it. Feedback on the variants will help if anyone has the time, and then Karsten can integrate if he has time too :)

This one is for lower strength wheels. I tested at ~5nm

What about the bug Karsten said is in the last few versions? Is that fixed?

    Here is the fixed.
    Hope it feels better.

fx now also adjusts the details strength to some degree.
This is not adjusted for lower force wheels, maybe you can popst feedback on the values to set for your wheel bases, then we can make a file for each type another day.

Thank you so much, @Karsten Hvidberg. Does this build off the DD one in Post #1226?

You know that as AMS2 is near full release isn't about time somebody spent some time on analysing the Default FFB settings and not the rarefied atmosphere of Custom settings? The Default settings are screaming out for some love and attention, particularly as they have gone backwards over recent updates until they are now not far off worse than the initial early access settings. The game lives or dies on inclusion when new players come to it, not on how complicated the experts can make it, but for the average Joe who's just paid his money when version 1 is go.

@Karsten Hvidberg great file update, it was quite easy to fine-tune and I didn't have to go into the file itself. Overall, very well balanced for me. Thanks! Gonna wait for the 9.4 today? maybe!? to find out if I keep this file/setup or do some more adjustments.

I just want to make a clarification here, I primarily enjoy racing GT style cars with typically heavier FFB in general (Super V8, Stock/Sprint Cars, etc.), so all of my settings are primarily geared for this. When I say that I like a "lighter" FFB wheel, I still want the wheel to have it's typical heavy feel to it. I don't want to be fighting the wheel in the corners or completely losing existing FFB details just to add more weight to the wheel.

If you want more weight, for sure start with an increase in the Gain. If this brings up too much of the scrub details for your liking, then start by decreasing the FX slider in increments of 5 to balance the effects back out. If needed decrease the scrub scale settings in my previous post in equal increments.

Congrats on the wedding anniversary! I'll give this a try in a bit.

@Marc Collins I do understand where you are coming from with your post and there certainly is a risk that some users will come here and get themselves into a rabbit hole, for sure. Nobody is being forced here and Reiza has chosen to allow for the Custom profile to be an option for a reason. I'm a design engineer by trade (these guys make me wish I was a software engineer instead!) and critical analysis of your work and/or a different design approach can have tremendous downstream pay-offs and/or value.

Myself, I'm thoroughly enjoying testing these files. Not only that, but the increase in knowledge in how FFB profiles work and can be tweaked, is allowing me to better understand the different things I'm feeling to a much greater degree than before I started this. This has made testing the default profile much easier for me today than only just a few weeks ago.

The coin flips both ways, I think. If someone is getting really frustrated with the Custom files, then this isn't for them and should stick with the Default.

I actually don't know where to see the post #, but I assume it's the ones from @NuScorpii you mean?
It does build off those as well, but not tried to adjust for low force.
Those should be easy to copy over, though.
