Problem is you can adjust almost nothing ingame.
So you won't be able to suit your wheel perfectly. Also the default just still requires more improvements.
If I was Reiza I would simply include the fixes we have here, even including the fx, & then a cpl slider to scale them up down.
To me the FFB is very good in AMS2 using the custom ffb.
I agree it seems the default has gone worse since EA release, but also a few things have improved, so not all is bad :)

Bug was that we did not LFB boost on the "main" part of the rack force.
A line had simply gone missing in merging.
Then there also was an issue(minor though) in @NuScorpii 's post, even though we had fixed the other one.

2ndLastJedi, the issues have been fixed and if you did not yet
    Marc,
    I agree with you completely.
It is a very important point that people should get those sliders right and not jump in to custom ffb right away, if at all.

Custom ffb is def. only for those of us that are not fully happy with the ffb and feel we can get at least partly there by ways of tweaking values or code in those files.

Feel free to start that discussion if you want to. This thread isn't exclusive to custom profile modding. Unfortunately most of those posting here right now have already found the default FFB lacking regardless of settings, which is why we've turned to the work being done by the Karsten and NuScorpii. They've really worked wonders here, and using/tweaking the profiles they've made really isn't that difficult at all.

That's kind of the point. They've done all the hard work of writing the code, and have put a bunch of simple variables right at the top for us laymen to play with. It's no different than tweaking sliders in any sim, but you're typing numbers instead.

Nice work on these custom files, @Karsten Hvidberg & @NuScorpii
although, I haven't had time to keep up with the changes made recently.:(

    @Marc Collins
I think the current Reiza Default FFB provides a good baseline ffb with my SC1, albeit with reduced filtering (grainy feeling). Tire scrub is difficult to detect though, unless I reduce filtering even further.

Given the current status, it makes sense that Reiza's best approach is to tune the default to suit the majority of players and the rest can utilize some form of custom profile (imo).

Is it possible to get a Reiza plus kerbs file? Keeping as is Default FFB but with kerbs of your latest files but nothing else changed from Reiza Default.

Reiza is stepping back from ffb tweaks for the time being, so development right now literally is just @NuScorpii, @Karsten Hvidberg and company.

Not the first time I’ve seen a company make their platform moddable or customizable by the playerbase. It makes me think its on purpose because every player and rig are different.

We all know that ffb can kill games. All it takes is a quorum of youtube content creators to say its **** and the game will forever be ****. And we all know how important hype is for full multiplayer lobbies. At least now there is something to reply with. “Check the custom files”.

I have a feeling that soon we will have different customizable files for DD and belt and probably more refinement in the future.

The files have descriptions of what each thing does somewhat and as that fills out it will become even more accessible to the “casual community”.

The way I see it is @NuScorpii and @Karsten Hvidberg and others are providing an invaluable service while the developers push content.

Sure, but I would also start by modding the scrub line in the default file first as a separate "test" before comparing with the more elaborate custom files that are simultaneously modifying so many things. That line is (scrub_rack 1.0) with settings up to 2.0 possible for additional scrub.

Then, either after adjusting the scrub to your liking or confirming there is no value that is satisfactory, jump into the wizardry available here.

I very may use it myself, but haven't even had enough time to evaluate the Default FFB across a wide range of vehicles and conditions yet. It feels incredibly good--best so far in the AMS 2 evolution for sure. But I then have to adjust the scrub, because that's about the only thing that I might hope to improve. The problem is that the scrub is already excellent on some vehicles (e.g., Ultima GTR), but not very nice on others (F-V10), so any adjustment that improves one hurts the other. And, since at least one car feels excellent, there is the potential that they all could be that good if Reiza adjusted the CARS, since the FFB itself cannot be the problem as long as at least one car (out of the dozens) feels appropriate/great.

I will be convinced when more people report not only excellent feel from the custom file(s), but also that every single car in the portfolio is balanced and without extreme effects (be they the "pendulum" effect or numbness or whatever). I already have that (after so many updates and too many slider balancing exercises to count) and so far any adjustment I can make to fix a problem car diminishes one of the vehicles that was already at the top of the heap. It takes a lot of testing time to go through the whole portfolio of cars, so just reporting that car "X" feels sublime doesn't impress me.

However, as I have said, this is great and invaluable work because as we get to "final" FFB settings from Reiza, @Karsten Hvidberg and @NuScorpii will have become such experts that they will be able to advise what surgically precise changes might be required based on the particular user's wheel hardware and the specifics of their lack of satisfaction. So much so that I am sure even Reiza appreciates the intelligence (to potentially be applied in the sim itself) and that a number of AMS 2 users are now happier with their purchase.

EDIT: Great, just read the change log for 0.9.5, which adds rear scrub effects, so back to square one evaluating the Default!!!

    Updated FFB file.
Nothing new functionality wise from "Road of fame".
(Looking forward to next EA release tonight/tomorrow!)

    * Removed a cumbersome, redundant block in the road details calculation.

Only download if you did not yet download "Road of fame" or you just prefer simpler code to look at or hack in.

Custom ffb file attached "The Cleaner":

Testing new Beta update now , dont have time to test your update as the new FFB has some changes that need more testing, but first impression of new Default is good so far :)

    Great:)

Really looking forward to this one! (& being envious of beta users)
Hopefully they've put some good work in to the physics! That's where I'm most desperate for improvements :)

I think it would be a nice gesture from Reiza to somehow allow @Karsten Hvidberg and @NuScorpii access to the beta section. I haven't personally used any of the modified files but their hard work and efforts to improve the game for everyone is clear to see.

Perhaps allowing their involvement in the more advanced section of the forum could further help Reiza to advance progress.

    Quite useful stuff in here.
I wonder if the Reiza guys are also following this thread, and maybe find some tweaks and investigations useful to finetune their default FFB as well. :)

It would be a nice gesture and I agree with the sentiment, but I think it would just cause controversy from a vocal minority of both the have and have-nots. Then you'd get every man and his dog throwing out custom FFB files to try and get free access to the beta.

The thing is, it's not like Reiza are a bunch of talentless buffoons who don't know what they're doing. That isn't the reason their FFB is the way it is. They've chosen a direction and they appear to be sticking to it, and not giving in to the vocal minority. (Those posting on forums are always a minority of the actual playerbase, and people are always quicker to complain than compliment.) I may not necessarily agree with the current direction of their own FFB, but I do respect them sticking to their guns. If more developers did that we might actually get some decent indy EA games. But that's another debate altogether.

I agree and I would argue that the current default is pretty good when compared to other sims already. So plenty good for the normal user and Reiza would be right to focus on other stuff more, if that's the case.

And you have NO idea how much I agree to your "sticking to their guns" part. That is the most important for long term success as I see it too. And we want them to succeed big time for the variation of Sims sake and bc we all count on them perfecting this, now they finally are using tech that is actually excellent in so many ways!

They have added in a scrub effect that may be similar to what you guys have been working on for weeks now (it includes both front and rear!). I happen to strongly dislike it in the initial beta form it is in, but it is an implicit recognition of the work you have been doing here. The only thing they want to stick to is excellence. Because of that, I have no fear that it will either get some tweaks, or a user adustability will be added--even if it's only through the Default .txt file.

Those are fair points you make and I'm in no way suggesting that Reiza change direction to that which they are committed to :)

I have no idea how much the Devs might be looking at this thread, especially with them having so many other things to contend with.

My thinking was that if aware, they may at some point be able to look at, test and if approved, incorporate pieces of the good work already done by the aforementioned guys. If that could save some time for the Devs and also possibly end up with default settings that make end users happier it would be a positive thing.

Of course, there will then be the obligatory backlash from those who will say it was 'better before' which is why I'm very greatful that I'm not intelligent enough to be a dev :D

I must also add that I wasn't intending to speak on their behalves. Apologies if it came across that way.

They already did by adding the scrub effects in the beta that just came out. And the response was mixed, same as here. There are too many variables to please everyone instantly but like peeling the layers of an onion, we are all getting closer to knowing which adjustments really matter; which ones cause issues on which hardware. The work on the custom files here has been very valuable just to understanding what is possible, let alone actually improving things for people.

I would not have been able to understand the scrub issues in the beta had I not been following along here and dabbling with some of the files.
