Automobilista 2 Mods!!!

I just downloaded it and I can't let myself put it onto my PC after Windows says it's a virus. I can let it but my mind says no.

Why does it get flagged as a virus? What would the modder put in there that makes Windows flag it and why put whatever it is in there?

 

I have Windows 11 and defender scanned it and didn't find anything.

 

It's not likely a virus. If you look at the details of why it is being flagged or blocked, 99% of the time it is due to "unfamiliarity." In other words, it's a new file that hasn't made it's way into the databases as a confirmed safe file yet. Did you check your scanner details?

Do you want your anti-virus program to be this conservative? Yes, or else you could get infected by new viruses on a daily basis.

Does this mean that new mod files will get flagged regularly? Yes.

Are you willing to wait until the files have become familiar and are no longer questionable?

If yes, then be more patient.

If no, then you will have to manually tell your scanner that you trust these files.

This has been happening for years in every aspect of computing that involves file distribution...

 

It's probably the JGME executable file that's included. Maybe delete it and try scanning again (assuming you already have it installed)?

 

Usually i get a warning saying this is harmful and do i want to keep it, but this one was straight away removed. As such i didnt get a chance to scan or look at the files at all. I will just wait i guess. I would like to try the mods, not interested in the GT3 stuff but the other content looks interesting.

 

Don't worry, it's safe. It's what's called a false positive. Modded content has a higher probability of raising such flags, because of all the unpacked content. Games have thousands of files packed into encrypted archives, that never see the light of day, and when you make a mod, you have to unpack all that content, to make changes, and it will be released unpacked with all those thousands of files subject to being scanned. Given the amount, some of those files might contain something that reminds the virus program of code used in malicious programs, and it will err on the safe side, and give a warning.
As long as you get the mods directly from the modders, or trusted sources, you can be pretty safe.
I have installed all available mods for AMS2 on more than 20 computers, and no incidents or warnings have popped up.

And I/we certainly don't put "anything" into the mods, that might flag it as a virus.

You need the Mods_AIO_v2.5.7z.

 

The IndyCar 2023 mod has both mechanical and visual damage. Various bits fall off if you crash. Modern IndyCars are very reliable though, so don't expect too many DNFs. Occasionally you will see someone putting out black smoke and they will pit for repairs.

 

Not sure this is even the place to ask, but i notice with the Indycar mod, in VR the fov is wrong in the wing mirrors. Cars are huge and stretched out.

Is there a file that can be changed my end, or would this be something the modding team would need to address?

 

You should still be able to go into the settings/details of your AV program and see what/why was happening and override/reverse it, as necessary.

 

I disabled defender. Downloaded. Then scanned the file and it was all clear.

Def a false positive. Got the same downloading the latest mod track as well.

When were they going to release the speedway version?

 

My best guess is when it's ready, but i do know they're working on it

 

Are these mods tweaked in any way? Or are they cars configured for the PC2 physics, running on AMS2 physics? Do they feel "the same" as AMS2 cars or do they exhibit some of the more unrealistic behaviour from PC2?

 

I redownloaded the mods and there was no flagging as a virus. I didn't change anything on my end so I wonder if it's been changed.

Bugfix confirmed! Porsche FFB now working as expected!

 

Based on the Radical, it felt better than PC2 immediately (I drove them back to back). That could be down to setup (default in AMS2, I tried both defaults in PC2) or FFB (Danielkart's v70 in AMS2 and raw in PC2) but I enjoyed driving in AMS2 much more.
