Shhh, you're ruining the fantasy world that so many racing fans live in where only stupid Americans on stupid American ovals "need" spotters. According to these racing fans (who are subject matter experts based on watching network television), no one else "needs" spotters... and *especially* not European drivers in European series running on European track because they *definitely* don't need no stinkin' spotters! :p

I'm done arguing the point with people. If they want to shut their eyes to the obviousness of the truth, then so be it. I mean, what do I know, I've only run a few hundred laps in my own car with NASA Utah and seen how even they use spotters around the track. But hey, if watching TV and running a session or two of karts makes people experts in racecraft, then who am I to judge? :D

I doubt F1 guys don't have a spotter on the start of the race at least, knowing when you are 3 wide makes so much difference in this moment...

In real life racers don't wear blinders* and have their heads locked in one position looking straight ahead. Most people have a one-monitor setup, and I've seen plenty of sim racers who have a problem with spatial awareness and are frequently oblivious when someone has pulled up right next them. I don't plan to use the spotter but I hope most people who have a problem with spatial awareness will also be self-aware enough to know they can benefit from the spotter. But as Rodders indicated above, most guys who lack spatial awareness indeed also lack self-awareness.

*In case there is a language barrier for anyone, these are blinders:

Tire temps, brake temps, tire wear, engine temps, and the much-requested solution to the question of "how do I know if someone is sharing my pit box and intends to pit". Sorry the text is a little small, I forgot to switch the resolution down to 1920x1080 while recording.

PS - The blinking lights on the airplanes in the sky are so awesome, it just adds so much to the atmosphere! (literally and figuratively). The Marcas cars sound like a swarm of angry bees, but they're tons of fun to drive.

As a single screen user I can't attest to being that blind to my surroundings because its too easy to just keep a rearmirror at the top of the screen and bind the glance keys so I can use the mirrors. Its not hard to be aware with one screen.

However, as a single screen user I am so happy to have a spotter because its a major relief to that workload.

Can we have some commentary on this update? I apologise for my curiosity, but I'm a Formula V12 addict and its my most loved car so I always care about why things change with it.

Thanks for your work @gongo ! All this will really be handy in multiplayer: for the flags (some people do miss the small flag in the corner of their big screen or triples) and for the pits stops requests! :D

Great video! I experimented with adding static/courtesy tone beeps to the phrases so that it sounds more authenticly like half duplex radio, but it got very distracting very quickly. Sometimes we have to sacrifice a little "simulation value" in exchange for a more fun game experience. As it is, the radio can be a little busy at max detail level which is why the default is "high" instead. I thought about a "don't talk to me" button to temporarily disable the spotter for 30 seconds but I haven't decided yet on whether or not to do it. Honestly, I'm just doing a lot of testing first to make sure that things work as I expect them to before I add anything else.
LOL. In all seriousness, balancing the sound so that it's consistently easy enough to hear over the engine noise has been tough. I'm testing it with many different cars to make sure that I hear it over the cabin noise. I love the Marcas cars, but I'll admit that sometimes it's easier to just hit "mute". ;)

Isn't better to have a on/off button to the spotter rather than something temporary?

    ON spotter says: "Ok ready"
OFF spotter says: "Call me when needed"

You are doing a very good job. Keep it up! As stated before, is good to have a choice to use/not use. Personally? I'll use it.

Good track choice at the beginning of the video ;)

    Need a female voice pack
    Hits "OFF"
"You wanna break up with me????? It's not how it works!" *spotter keeps talking*
    Hits "ON"
"So now you wanna listen to me???? " *spotter stays in silence*

It depends on how I implement the "disable spotting when passing" button. There's enough interest in just having the engineer radio messages and not the spotter stuff that I'm looking at how to do that cleanly. Once I have that done, I'll look at toggle vs cycle vs temporary.
    Fixed. :D
Yup. My proposed solution before was to edit the config file, but that requires the sim to be restarted to take effect. I was just running a long and crowded practice session and found myself wanting a menu option to disable it for the rest of the session, but still be able to turn it back on for the next session. I just want to avoid cluttering the menu too much, so I'm thinking on how to do it in a way that makes sense.

Let it not be said that I don't listen to my users, lol. Like I said to @keith windsor before, if there's demand, I'll do it. About a dozen people have asked for this switch, so now I'll do it, just gotta figure out how to make it work without breaking stuff. ;)

    There, it's done.
When Radio Detail is toggled to "Off", then all of the options are forced to "Off" as well.
When Radio Detail is toggled to "Low" or above, then all of the options are toggled to "On" and can be turned to "Off".

Awesome job, would be really cool to be able to assign a volume up and down for the spotter as some cars are alot louder than others.

Can someone else confirm the game is ignoring any full course yellow setting you use (i.e. not freezing the grid, giving penalty for passing before the line, etc despite all this being set different). Seems like using only default, not good. :(
