This is pretty much the exact reason I started working on BrakeMaster for my son, who races karts. The main goal wasn't really to teach him where to brake, but to develop the fine control of his left foot. I didn't want the brake to stay an ON/OFF input, but something he could actually modulate precisely and release progressively. We started practising brake pressure and release separately from driving, and eventually I turned the idea into a browser-based training tool that works with sim pedals.
