This would be less a career mode and more a 3rd or 4th mode, but considering Automoblista 2 is a "Celebration of Motorsports history", I would love to have a "The Track, Men, and Machines of Motorsports" section of the game celebrating special cars and famous drivers throughout the years.

Each section would be organized like a book with many different events evoking famous race from that car track or driver's past, and each event would unlock a short cutscene telling the story of its importance. It doesn't need to be a documentary, but maybe a 30-45 second long bit narrated by Jake from GPlaps about the importance of what your about to do next.

After you complete each book, you unlock a longer highlight video about the history of whatever it was, and maybe you unlock a steam achievement for doing so.

To give a example of what this would look like...

    Spa

    Chapter 1, 1970's
    Event 1
The 1970's were a pivotal moment in Motorsports history, as safely became a ever increasing concern, and with speeds increasing, some tracks became too dangerous to hold races on. Spa-francorchamps was one such course and in 1969, the drivers of the Formula 1 World Championship staged a walkout, refusing to race on the Spa circuit until various safety improvements were made. In 1970's the racers returned to find their demands had been met, and they lined up once again to take on the 14 kilometer circuit for what would be the final time.

Adjustable race around Spa 1970's with chicane with the Formula Historic Gen 2.

    Event 2
After the Abandonment of Spa by Formula 1, Sports cars moved into fill the void. The 1000KM at Spa became one of the key races for the World Sportscar Championship hopeful's, and the races attracted brands like Porches, Chevrolet, and BMW to do battle on the long straights and sweeping curves of Belgium's home of speed.

Race at 1970's spa without the chicane using GT classic and GT TC group (whatever has the BMW 2002)

    Chapter 2 1980's-1990's
    Event 3
Formula 1 would return to the woods of Belgium following a massive modernization project for the circuit. Now a purpose built racing circuit, Spa welcome in the era of the flat bottomed, turbo charged Formula 1 car.

Race at 1992 Spa with Formula Retro Gen 3

    Event 4
The only thing faster than Formula 1 to race at Spa was the monstrous Group C cars. The pentacle of Prototype Sports cars, these turbocharged behemoths could hit in excess of 200mph on the straights. Can you tame the beast?

    1991 spa, Group C

And you get the idea. You go through each era of the track, showing what cars raced their, and also pointing out drivers of note. Also other books could focus on a driver or a car rather than a track, and you could follow their career throughout the years.

Liked that last post. Some may remember the excellent Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed/2000 games. It had two career modes: one going through all Porsche's history, starting with the first 356, all the way until the then brand new 996 gen GT3 spec. AMS2 has enough stuff to pull off something similar, going through the ages of motorsport.

The other was not something that would interest me much, which was kind of a story mode of you progressing as a works Porsche driver. The story was delivered only through text, but it worked, showing that sometimes, less is more.

    Hello guys!
I don’t see a dedicated thread about the upcoming career mode for AMS2.

I was first wondering if they already had a clear idea of what to do. If not, I would like to use this thread to share our ideas to Reiza.

I really love the game and I think it deserves an addictive Single Player experience that makes you want to come back to complete everything.

I know that this is a relatively small team so I wanted to suggest some « easy » features to make it more appealing without taking too much time to develop.

    1. Championship Events:
You choose a category (F1, kart, GT3, Copa Classic) and you have to do a series of races and win the championship.
A basic trophies system would push people to do them all.

    2. Historical Events:
    Race of Champions - 1984 - Nurburgring - One Make - Mercedes 190E - 10 Laps
(Trophy Name « Future Legend »)

    3. Quick original single races:
Different scenario themed races to make us discover some hidden gems or fun/original combinaisons (ex: VW Polo @ Monaco - 5 or 10 laps - sunset or light rain etc )

    4. Time Attack Academy:
Some simple time trials with bronze, silver and gold trophies.
    (ex: Formula Ultimate @ Suzuka / GT3 @ Spa / Catherham @ Brands Hatch - Porsche 917K @ LeMans etc.)

    5. Some Career Mods
This could be the hardest thing to implement but the result would be rewarding:
Allowing modders to add scenarios/races directly into the single player game.
Once it is done, you just have to let the community make some great races with official names on it without having troubles with licensing; we could have an almost official F1 20xx career mod and endless career races.

It doesn't have to be complicated: 1 illustration for the custom/mod race; a file to set all the parameters (race length, rules, tracks, cars allowed)
This could maybe go to the "Championship" section as a "custom championship" the mod would work as a preset and would make it easier for the player to start a realistic season without having to spend time playing with the parameters.

This could lead to a better integration to the existing mods.

    What do you guys think?
Have you nice car/track combinaisons that you would love to see in the Career mode?

    Cheers!

I think that if this is what the AMS2 career mode ends up being the community will be extremely disappointed

This is the main thread dedicated to this topic: Career Mode - Ideas and Suggestions
There's also this minor one: https://forum.reizastudios.com/threads/career-mode-requests-suggestions-ideas-thread.36285/

Since the announcement of AMS2 in 2019, a core component of the career mode has always been planned to be the careers of famous Brazilian race drivers, but Reiza is also planning something in addition to that:
I imagine it to be something like choosing one famous Brazilian race driver to role-play as, and then take part in the races throughout their career.
Moving into more speculative territory: Other relatively likely modes are "rags to riches" where you choose open-wheelers or tin-tops, with maybe some invitationals. Similar to how it's done in Project Cars 2 or Project Motor Racing, but hopefully done better.
Wishful thinking: Historical "through the ages" showcase. A unique selling point of AMS2 is its "every decade of F1" content, although it would have to start in 1967 because 1950s content is missing / not planned. Even less likely is "every decade of Le Mans" starting with the teased 1960 Maserati Birdcage and moving on to the teased 1970s cars, that would be equally awesome. A mode like this would be quite dependent on players owning the necessary DLCs, so I don't really see it happening.

Thanks for moving it, I searched for it but couldn’t find it.

I can understand that but in the meantime, I try to have low expectations as Reiza seems to be a relatively small team.

Having special (small) events + a career mode trough the eras would be nice already

For the cinematics introductions or contracts and team swaps, these seems more difficult to develop and sound unlikely.

Anyway, I hope they take some time thinking about the best/most efficient way to make an addictive career mode by seeing what the other mainstream games are doing (GT7, Forza, NFS Porsche 2000 etc).

I also hope they try to make it easy for modders as they are a big part of AMS2’s popularity.
And in a way, letting the community create their own career mode would make it a strong career mode (and more official, just like liveries).

We just have to look at what people are doing right now: they develop companion apps to create a sort of a Career mode already and everything is pretty neat (except for the integration with the game which is limited right now). Everything is just right: the illustrations, the contracts, the official IA names etc.

Leaving this to the community could lead to official F1 20xx/GT3/LeMans 2005 career mode etc.

I thing you must buy Race Pace App and integrate it in AMS2. It's the perfect career mode, with scenarios, mails, contracts, etc etc

Absolutely agree, Race pace is a fantastic companion app.
I hope the Reiza team have taken time to check it out as I'm sure they could find plenty of inspiration from it.

Even an official API for race setup, etc would make things much easier for the career mod apps. I don't understand why there is none. I only see Zero to Apex mod automatically set everything for you by DLL injection, but it's flaky. I wish there was an API for it provided by the game itself.

This keeps getting repeated, but Spa was still largely public roads during this time, that's why if you play the Spa 1993 layout, at the end of Kemel straight (which has road style-markings) you turn off, but you can see that the straight itself keeps going, towards Burnenville just as it always had. My dad drove us past the original pits and through Eau Rouge in the mid 80s after F1 had returned but it was still part of the Belgian road system. It was only the new bit shortcutting back from there to Blanchimont that was a private track.

My understanding is that they built substitute roads to enable the track to be closed year round only from 2000.

As for the rest of the thread. It's completely premature to talk about career mode when so many rungs of the ladder are missing.

    So for example Senna did
1970s Brazilian Karting (got, if you don't know eras of karting)
1981 UK Formula Ford 1600 (kinda got, with basic formula trainer as they haven't changed much)
1982 UK Formula Ford 2000 i.e. with wings (not got)
1983 British F3 (not got, 2000s F3 is too different)
    1984 F1 (got)

So that's a 60% present, 40% missing, with the most generous judgement possible

If you go for earlier eras you run into the problem of no Formula 2, no Super Vee, with later eras there is no F3000, no GP3, no GP2, so 60-40 is actually a decent hit rate.

You also hit a hole in the early 80s, there are no mature ground effects F1 cars or early turbos. There needs to be formula retro gen 2.5 here, also because Piquet's 1981 championship winning BT49 clearly doesn't belong in the 1978 set unless there are supposed to be 4 Brabham works drivers on the grid. It needs to be racing with clones of the Williams FW07C, the Ferrari 126CK or the Renault RE30.

So in my opinion they should:
    1) fill in the missing classes, for all eras (where era means like retro, classic etc, it doesn't have to be per generation), and
    2) make it easier for career apps to integrate (all you need is on startup to search for an XML file with requested single race parameters, if found, delete it and run the race, then write the results to another XML file and close the game, the community will do the rest).

With 2) you don't need a 1st party career mode at all. Everyone can just choose the 3rd party app that most closely matches their own particular ideas of what they want career to be instead of someone having to coordinate all their mutually incompatible ideas.

Agree. "Automatic by weather" should plug in to the same "team boss" or whatever that the AI drivers are using to decide if they should be on slicks or wets.
