Choosing different down force version of F1 in championship and outside of matches

Recently, I started a Formula Hybrid Gen 3 championship, but throughout the races, I have not been able to use different downforce versions of the car, and it is not automatically chosen. I was driving the low-downforce version under heavy rain in SPA, and that made me realize that throughout all 7 matches I've played, none of them have used the high downforce version of the car.

I understand that during single matches and training sessions, those are usually automatically chosen, but during the championship, they were not. It would be great if the player could have the freedom to choose the variation of the vehicle, hell, even the vehicle within the same group, during the championship, and outside.
