I've been spending time with the F3 in AMS2, trying to "come to grips with it" so to speak. I'm mainly turning laps at Interlagos or whatever it is called in AMS2. The default setup seems to have a fair bit of understeer. However, rather than going to setup adjustments I'm trying to employ trail braking to get me around the corner. Now I have spent an lot of time driving the various Tatuus formula cars in RF2 and consider them brilliant. The Tatuus appears roughly equivalent to AMS2 F3 car in specs however the way they feel is completely different. The RF2 Tatuus seems to have a lot more grip at the limit but gives up the grip more quickly while the F3 grip loss is more progressive. The Tatuus is much twitchier laterally while its seems like I'm having to be patient with F3, kind of like you would with a much heavier stock car. Does anyone have any thoughts to share?
It is a shame but it has been deemed that the default setups are to have understeer. When I looked into this some years back I watched an excellent yt by Martin Brundel former F1 driver who talked about this and made reasonable and logical case that although a default behaviour of understeer should be the case for ordinary road cars, race cars should be balanced front and rear with the edge towards oversteer. In earlier iterations of AMS2 setups they were exactly like that imo and a joy to drive.
