My 3090 recently died, and I replaced it with a Radeon 7900 GRE. I'm also thinking about upgrading the CPU, so I'm spending quite a lot of time on YouTube looking at videos comparing game performance with different graphics cards and CPUs. But it doesn't seems like hardware reviewers are very fond of sim racing games, at least not AMS2, so I find it somewhat difficult to find relevant reviews. If I was playing ACC I could look at benchmarks for other Unreal engine games and get an idea about performance. But AMS is using the Madness Engine which no other modern games use, so that is not possible... So I'm wondering if anyone know of any popular games using graphics engines similar to Madness Engine? Or am I overthinking this? Will a GPU/CPU combo that runs F1 2023 or Modern Warfare great also run AMS2 with similar performance?
I have a 7900xt with an Intel 12700f and it runs the game 150+fps at 1440p with everything max no problem, only with heavy rain and in the pits with a full grid, it might drop momentarily to 75, but only for very short moments. Generally the best value among all CPU's right now is the Ryzen 7800x3d, so if you have the budget you won't go wrong with it. I would avoid the Intel 13th and 14th gen series due to the issues some of them have right now, not to mention the 7800x3d is simply a better value as well.
From other games it seems the GPU is way more important than the CPU in 1440p and 4K. And while the 7800X3D is an improvement on my 5800X I don`t think it is worth the additional cost of upgrading MB and RAM as well… I think I`ll just get a 5700X3D or 5800X3D to max out my AM4 platform, and wait another year or so and see how the next CPU and GPU generation turns out… Intel is not an option, AMD is a lot more upgradeable platform. If I replace my 5800X, I can put that CPU in my seven year old editing PC without changing anything else That’s not possible with Intel…
