Crew Chief V4 Spotter for Automobilista

Back on the replay thing:
Would be possible to have ths spotter working in replays? And also race start audio and a "go go go go" when the pit stop is complete (in this last case both in race and replay). Would be a nice touch when doing videos

Yeah, I was thinking more on a onboard TV camera where the TV usually keep the radio audio (like IndyCar and NASCAR). Anyway thinking better now it would have very small use, I guess not worth the work at all

@gongo thanks for the clarification. So far its been a real treat using it in AI races.

One other thing I noticed is that my spotter announces to me that my race is over when the first place car crosses the line, even if I'm still half a lap from the checkered. Is this something you can't overcome, or just a glitch I noted on a particular track?

I haven't tested it enough to say for sure, just at once circuit did I notice. I'll check it out at a few places to see what happens.

Now that you mention it, that's something i've noticed as well.

 

Another thing i've noticed is that when you leave the pits during practice / qualifying and you cross the first sectorline i get an lap invalid message. I don't know if this is something that can be solved in the CrewChief code ?

 

I have notice the same a few times: spotter is giving the result when the leader cross the line, like "well done, you're sixth", when in fact you are still battling and can end up in a different position. Not a big deal tho.
Overall it works really great! I'm amazed with the encouragement it gives during a race: whether you can catch the car in front or you are fading away, it really pushes to do better! With other spotter, you always feel it is a "machine talking to you"; here I start to loose this feeling and that's great! Very nice work, thank you again!

 

Totally agree Alex, i can't even race without my CrewChief anymore.

 

The guy who recorded the voice did a perfect job. Feels very authentic.

Yep, can confirm I get the message that the race is finished when the leader crosses the line, thought it was normal. And it's kind of a releaf since I'm running out of fuel in the end so I know there is no extra lap lol

The voice acting is all me - normally I just do techie stuff (I wrote the original app) but I do like the sound of my own voice

Dan has done an amazing job with the rfactor plugin and I honestly don't know how he's managed to get his head around my bloody awful c# code so well.

I know there are bugs in the app - most of them are my bugs, not Dan's. It's a surprisingly complicated old application. When I started writing it for Raceroom last summer it was just as a bit of fun but it kind took over my life for a while there.

I do intend to get back into it and make it better, but my commute is a sod at the moment and my current job leaves me pretty drained at the end of the day. When I'm not working so hard I'll spend more time with it

 

For some driver names the audio gets really low, so low i can't hear it, while other names are as loud as the rest of the voice lines.

Any clue what that could be?

Yeah, TTS was a bit of an experiment - it works OK in the Android version of the app, but Windows TTS is just appalling - it must be an absolute pain for anyone who actually relies on it (partially sighted users). So my advice is to switch TTS off on the Windows app - it'll use generic phrases ("the guy ahead type stuff) instead of names if it doesn't have a sound file for that name

 

Big thanks for this GONGO & Mr B, been using this for a while now in R3E, wondered why this wouldn't work with Automobilista? and now it does, awesome app thanks again.
