I think everyone can clearly see that both Grand Prix and Le Mans were based on a novel idea that you'd just have to have complete access to a race, film everything with the best cameras available at the time and then put a superscript of a story over it. Both also achieved the technical part brilliantly but completely failed in the second department, possible because the people who wrote the script didn't understand what they were doing. LeMans "story" was obviously not worth talking about, but the one in Grand Prix actually had some very interesting ideas that they just couldn't capitalize on. I'd even say that it could have been a problem with the actors. To give some examples, the character of Scott Stoddard was already beginning to work, had the movie shown more about him. And there were lines I found very memorable. like Nino Barlini breaking off his relationship by telling that "they throw treasures into the Mediterranean so Americans and stupid girls like her can search for them. And that he thinks she should go to hell" That was quite well thought out and played well, but the movie could not work with those ideas because it was all about the racing footage. Maybe they simply didnt put enough time and energy into the story because the documentary part was so much more interesting and somethjing that had never been done before.

My accident on the track, when I lost control of the car when the rear wheel touched a puddle. Unfortunately, the film was recorded in the style of the 'Blair Witch Project'. You couldn't see much, but the impressions were first class;)
