FPS drops in LFM?

I've luckily not had this now for a couple of weeks, as suggested by someone above I've been trying to minimise the number of other apps and times I switch to any other app.

(Random thought - I wonder if the LFM site and/or chrome could be the culprit as I guess most people have this open to check their split/server and also it does have the timeout thing which perhaps could make the game lose focus somehow? I haven't found a way to reliably recreate this bug yet though)

 

Ran my first LFM online race the other day. Interlagos w/ LMP2. About one lap into the race my framerate tanked & stayed in the 25 to 45 fps range the rest of the race. The instant I crossed the s/f line to win the race & the Cooldown graphic posted the framerate went back to 60fps, smooth as silk, for the entirety of the cooldown lap.

 

Tried this, turned all processes off everything closed no simhub crewchief, no browser open in background, even closed steelseries headphones software.

Also needed up lowering gfx settings and still no good.

Outside of an online race I hit good FPS with no drops at all.

 

Yesterday I experienced the drops of the fps (longer time a fps of 50-60 fps) outside of LMF. I tried to capture some images of the CPU usage and memory usage, but I didn't succeed. :-( . FYI: Usually my fps is a steady 90 fps in VR.

 

Today I played AMS2 for the first time after almost a year and while it runs very smooth for me in single player (over 200 FPS, system is about 55%) multi player is unplayable for me. It goes down to a freeze, than 200FPS, than 30, 200, freeze all in 4 corners and I just gave up.

 

Has anyone having the issue tried a full uninstall and reinstall of the game? Just curious.
Also are you guys who are experiencing the issues on Win10 or Win11?

 

Not a complete reinstall, but a steam file check. Did not really help & I use Windows 11.

 

I've seen cases where a file integrity check hasn't helped with some random issues in the past. Might I suggest, blowing away the entire game, deleting AMS2 folder in My Docs and doing a fresh reinstall?

 

Yeah, maybe I will do it sometime in the future.
Tbh, I‘m just back to LMU, which runs like a charm for me on- & offline without any issues at all, despite it‘s bad reputation.

 

If it was one person having the issue, maybe that would be an acceptable reason to do a reinstall. It's not one person though. I'm sure Reiza is looking into it, as it's been an issue since LFM brought multiplayer to the masses which let it rear it's ugly head.

 

TBH the only reason tech support would tell someone to uninstall and reinstall the game is if they want to get rid of them off the phone for an hour or so.

There's nothing it'll fix that deleting the settings and/or verifying the content won't.

 

I've seen it fix tire selection issues and pitstop issues for people in the past where the wrong tires would get loaded despite wiping the AMS2 folder and doing a file integrity check. It might be worth a shot, just saying. But it's ultimately up to you guys if you want to bother testing it.
I've yet to see any of these frame drop issues when playing multiplayer on LFM.

 

One thing I noticed is when the fps drop happens, let's say from my 72fps cap to 45-50fps, my monitor says it's working double that (~ 90-100fps).
It seems that unchecking vsync in game menu did stop that (I'm really not sure about this).

 

The last day or so I've had a large decrease in my off-line FPS. Prior to this AMS2 would run at 90-120 fps in off-line races even with 48 car fields. Now I can't get more than 40 FPS without turning down the image quality. I saw that there was a small update yesterday and wonder if that created an issue with game performance.

 

There was no update. That's just a file that updates stats to Steam since they added the rating system. You can tell when it says it's a "workshop" file.

I'm also experiencing significant FPS drops when there are a large number of cars on the grid in LFM. I've set the upper FPS limit to 141, and I monitor both GPU and CPU usage during gameplay. The strange thing is, during these FPS drops, both the GPU and CPU utilization hover around 20-30%, yet the framerate dropped from 141 to 49 FPS. If it happens, whole race is only 49 FPS and huuuge stuttering.

Here are my system specs:

• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2GHz
• Motherboard: MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI AM5
• RAM: 32GB DDR5
• GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti

This issue only occurs when there are many cars on the grid. I’ve tried lowering various graphical settings and reducing the number of visible cars, but the problem persists.

Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this or how to resolve it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

 

Low CPU / GPU usage observed when the FPS becomes abnormally low points at the main thread of the game being stuck waiting for something (possibly happening in a different thread) and slowing everything else down.

 

Curious, Win11 or Win10?

Anyone with Win10 having issues? I run in a league where everyone is running Win10 and nobody has mentioned experiencing these stutters in AMS2. Curious if this is just limited to Win11 users.
