Monitors black screen after a playing for a bit, game unplayable atm

Oh I never updated in here, sorry. I swapped the 1080Ti in and everything was fine.

When I had a close look at the 3090 I found some white stuff on the heatsink fins etc. I believe that was oxidation as it didn't clean off with isopropyl alcohol and left a rough whitened surface when removed with a bit of physical effort.

In the end I contacted the manufacturer who sent me diagrams of the correct placement and thickness for thermal pads, then bought replacement thermal pads and paste, used them, reassembled it (a chore as it's fairly intricate) after cleaning as much of the oxidation as I could and put it back in the PC.

Everything seems fine so far. The temperatures seem ok - I cannot compare them to before because I didn't pay close attention, but the fans are nowhere near as loud under gaming load as they used to be.

I will check it from time to time, as I've never seen that sort of thing happen to a GPU heatsink before. It could be that the thermal interface degraded to the point where the sink got so hot that it reacted with humidity, in which case hopefully the redone thermal material will help.

 

Ah sweet, glad to hear that you have most likely figured it out.
I'm doing some testing right now and it is very likely my main monitor that is going out thats causing it.
Have been running some tests with other monitors and its all working fine so far.

So maybe this is a good time to finally upgrade to one of them fancy curved ones
