Hello! I want to invest my time with AMS2 for some multiplayer races. Ideally, quick ones for the next year as I settle down in a new house. By quick one, I mean "I have an hour before me, can I squeeze a quick multiplayer race?". I see lobbies within the game, I see mentions of LFM, justrace, clubs here and there and I must admit I am a little lost as which options I should try. Thanks for any hints!
The quickest and easiest way would be to just jump into an open lobby, if you just want to quickly go and race - not always a bad thing! JustRace is a self-hosted server program that makes it easier to run a dedicated server. I played around with it for a bit in its early days, it's useful for things like setting up automatically scheduled races and effectively running a fully unattended "season" of racing. I imagine it's been further refined and developed since I last used it. LFM is an online portal called Low Fuel Motorsport. Essentially, they set up a bunch of races, you create an account, choose the races you want to participate in and uses a ranking system. I don't do much multiplayer racing as I don't have the time to dedicate to a league, but it is a very popular site and I believe it works really well across multiple games.
I actually just jumped on and did two LFM rookie races - they start off with the "Daily Dash" which looks to be a random car + track combination set weekly. Currently it's Super V8 at Cascavel. They track a driver rating and a safety rating, obviously the cleaner the race you run the more your safety rating improves. Looks like I originally signed up in 2022.
It’s not random track + car/class combo, I carefully tried to select combo’s that would work and be fun for each week! (And tested them all) We had same thing last season, players liked it, we just need more people to join the fun! (Weekly series with 1-2 races per week each are doing well with participation and i hope they will grow further, people have really enjoying those)
@GFoyle nice job! I was actually thinking that Cascavel suited the V8 Supercar perfectly. It reminds me a bit of Simmons Plains it's not a circuit I've spent much time on (if any) and it was good fun learning it. Had a few big shunts in that one spot haha.
Thanks for the replies! I understand now that each have their pros and cons. I will probably start with open lobby and LFM and see where it leads!
Hey man, just wondering if it would be possible to get any more Daily/weekly series but at different time offsets? I'm in Australia and the G40 Cup for example runs at 2am my time. Possibly if there could a series or two running with an 8-hour offset or so that could reach a wider audience? Of course I also understand if you're limited with server availability, and you're more likely to get larger numbers catering to Europe and the Americas
Every time LFM has tried to add slots work bigger races to US time zones, which should have bigger potential than Australia, it hasn't brough players to those sessions unfortunately and it's been tested again and again (we had USA Stock car series last season with races that should had worked for North/South America players better, but those races especially didn't get good participation at all). . The main dailies series do run around the clock though (there just ain't enough players around the clock). The empty sessions are generally bad advertising and at worse drive potential interest away. Small and divided player base for mp makes things hard and the offering must be designed with the limitations that brings in mind, otherwise it won't work (lessons learned).
