The historic 2005 Circuit De La Sarthe is really close to perfection. There are still some issues that should be addressed:
At the Virage Porsche, the AI can easily fly through the corner and make a very late lounge, makes me lose atleast 0,3-0,5 seconds. Between Virage Du Pont and Virage Maison Blanche its really on edge but nothing too bothering. But then the AIs will really crawl through the final chicane(Raccordement). Can easily outperform them with around 0,6 seconds

UPDATE: Another issue I discovered is, on this track with standing starts, I can gain almost ten places at the start since AIs are so slow off the grid. Take note I race with custom AIs with "start reaction" being on highest level!

Track and layout used: Spa Francorchamps Historic 1993
    Car: Lamborghini Diablo Super Trofeo
    Ai settings: strength 105
Report: The AI is very fast from Eau Rouge all the way through Radillon.
The gain over a second there while I drive a similar to faster laptime overall (1.32.2)

Edit: out of date, new report below. But same observation remains

The AI needs to improve on collision avoidance, they hit the brakes hard even when the clear choice is to go around an incident:

I know that under a yellow you should slow down, even though they have been improved, they are still inaccurate, thus coming to a full stop instead of simply going around an incident would be the better experience, and imo more like multiplayer experiences

    Car: Lamborghini Diablo Super Trofeo
Ai settings: strength 110 During both practice and qualifying
Reports: AI takes a very wide line through La source, making them lose a lot of time. (done to prevent a crash against the barrier maybe?)

Then through Eau Rouge and Radillon they keep a speed that is not achievable by me at least (even though I changed the line since the post before so my speed out of Radillon is much higher. This makes it impossible for me to keep up with them on the Kemmel Straight (removing the biggest overtaking opportunity).
Edit (Addition): Same during the race. They are just so quick through Eau Rouge and Radillon that it is impossible to keep up. I'm a sitting duck there, losing 1-3 places.

Then, they are reasonably on pace throughout the lap, up to the bus stop chicane, where they are again quite slow.
My time during qualifying (I was second) was a 2:30.884 with splits:
    • 0:40.186
    • 1:11.294
    • 0:39.404
The fasted AI did a 2:30.322 with splits
    • 0:39.515
    • 1:10.520
    • 0:40.287
Edit: In race their speed through Eau Rouge en Radillon makes them

All AI in the classes I've driven are too fast over radillon, and slow into Bus Stop / La Source, on all versions of Spa. AI on exit of Stavelot with both modern versions of Spa initially run out onto the curb and then violently steer back off the curb to enter Curve Paul Frere. They should stay on the curb longer before gently/gradually moving back on track for the entry to Paul Frere.

Classes driven, all 2005 GT and LMP cars in the new endurance pack. LMP Gen1 and 2, all Formula Classic Gens, GT3 Gen1 and 2, and P1/2/3/4 classes.

Three issues I have found with Mosport:

    Skill level: 105

#1 On the first lap, AIs tend to hug the wall on the first corner
    20260206212535_1.jpg

#2 AIs are very aggressive through corner 8 on the approach to the "esses"
#3 Similarly to Virginia Full Course, pacewise they are too fast!

A disclaimer to you developers reading this: I know I am bringing up two similar AI issues a bit too often here, but take note that I only want the issues that I uncover to just get addressed no matter what they are. Whether it is just pointing out too fast AIs or them making a late lounge through a corner, I hope it is just taken seriously. And I have every bit of patience and hope that you will fix it since you are awesome at what you are doing with this amazing game!

    Ai strength: 110 (Race)
    Aggression: High
Reports: AI tends to stick their nose in gaps that don't really exist. This causes the player to spin out. Spa seems affected quite badly because of the long mid to high speed corners where this behavior is seen the most.

Looks like they don't want to go for an overtake, but misjudge the distance to the car in front by mere centimeters.

    Monza 1991 need some tweaks:
Ridiculously fast pace and them having an advantage in sector 3
    20260207225554_1.jpg
    Also done with skill 105

Previously I have mentioned issues with two GP versions of Silverstone Circuit which both have an issue around the Becketts-complex with one also having another issue the other doesn't have. Well sadly I wasn't that specific to where the exactly the problem exists, but here it is and even marked on the map as well.

    Silverstone 2001

On this track, there are zero issues with Copse but right through Maggotts & Becketts, the AIs are superior! The can easily dive so late and fly through the corner, even during starts!
Another issue to also note is, the AIs are so slow out of Abbey on the approach towards the Farm Straight and tend to also slide out of the corner!

    20260214014404_1.jpg

    Modern Silverstone GP

This is were AIs have a slight advantage through Copse, faster exit speed through Becketts & Chapel and also slightly better through Stowe!
    image_2026-02-14_020842471.png
And you know its also that bad when an AI can drag a sturdy car like the big M8 and outperform me still where the issues occur. Even with a Ginetta Cup Car, they can also do this dirty trick!
    20260214003950_1.jpg

Both are done with skill level 108!

Have you testes 1991? Do you experience the same?
I had exactly this impression before in maggots/beckets with the 1991 version, but in the last race I did there I was much less off the pace, actually probably in pace and I had no issue with the streight (apart that if I followed someone there was a lot of dirty air entering it, as it should). I lost time in Copse, though. I do not want to negate your claim, I am still not sure actually, and I am talking of a different version actually, I just want to point that in this specific sector I realized recently, whether there is an AI issue or not, I was the one doing it wrong.

I think it would be useful if more users of the forum could test this (I will do with more modern variants as soon as I can), and definitely a check from the devs is worth. Also, something important is try to do some setup tweaks if you can. I do not remember which ones I did specifically, but if the lost time happens due to the default setup it is totally reasonable.

Funny fact: I use exacly 108 AI skill also.

So I gave the '91 layout a try with the 1991 F1 cars. And here is what I experienced:
Not remotely that many issues between Copse and Chapel and was able to match them really well with the same difficulty setting. The only place I felt I lost to the AIs was at Stowe where they tend to be snipers! Elsewhere they are fine enough!¨

In the past I have been annoyed by spinning after touching an ai car while the ai car just keeps going. After watching the Bathurst 12 hr I might have to rethink it. Tom Randall Merc 222 said he just touched the car in front when it moved on him and that caused his big lose. Just as it happens in Ams2.
The other bone of contention with so many Ams2 users is the freight-train racing aspect with out much overtaking. But watching the event yesterday, lap after lap of no real overtaking. I'm starting to think we might be a bit over-critical of Ams2's ai performance.

Hmm, they do not even manage to overtake a slow car on the long straight from start/finish up to Tosa in Imola 88, where fast cars just sniffed slower ones during races back then.

The contact one is still often questionable - the player contact physics behaviour is good enough, but it's the AI that's far from it unfortunately.

I completely agree with car trains though - overtakes are not as common as the race highlights suggest ;)

The trains are absolutely an issue for open wheelers. Not that open wheel racing do not form trains, they do. But AMS2 trains seem far more similar to tin top racing than open wheel racing.

There is another major issue related to trains: if a file of AI cars is forming, the conclusion we make is that the chasing car does not have enough speed difference to make the overtake. That in itself is fair enough. The issue arises when the player enters the scene. More often than not, the human controlled car seems to have a speed advantage over the AI stuck in trains.

If Im not mistaken, Reiza has been adding speed boosts here and there to try to fix it, but this approach feels more like a workaround rather than fixing the root of the problem.

All in all, what I want to say is that AI open wheel race in AMS2 doesnt look & feel immersive/organic. There are far too many quirks all over the place that breaks suspension of disbelief for me.

Is AMS2 AI race experience the benchmark of the market for open wheelers? Imho, yes. Doesn't mean it is realistic, great and immersive, though. It is just better than the competition. That is my opinion, at least.

Can someone explain why AI cars tap the brakes on the bend in the front stretch at Daytona? There is absolutely no reason for ANY car to need brakes on that turn when there's nobody in the way.

    Automobilista 2 / The 2023 Indy at SPA 2005

At the 2005 SPA race in Automobilista 2’s 2023 Indy cars, the AI drivers bunched up and caused a huge traffic jam in Turn 1 and again near the final corners. You can see exactly what I mean in the video.
