I tried racing this combo (with the 98 cars) against them yesterday. Qualifying was normal, managed to get myself in P5. Then when I got to the race, I was suddenly about 2 seconds per lap slower than everyone.
It was a 50 lap race with x2 fuel usage, normal tyre wear. The AI was probably a little lighter than me, since I was running with a full tank of fuel, which wasn't necessary, but nothing explains that big of a gap.

Same thing happened when I tried racing the 2000 cars at Gateway - put myself around the middle of the pack in quali, but when the race began, I was 1-2 seconds per lap slower. Same settings: 50 laps, x2 fuel usage, normal tyre wear, and a full tank for myself. Once again, I think the AI was a little lighter, but not to a point that explains that big of an advantage.

It feels like their fuel doesn't have weight. That doesn't explain why they are this fast in TT though.

Hi, I'm new in this forum, I purchased the game when v1.6 released.

Maybe you guys have already discussed this alot but, I've noticed a disparity in AI competitors in some classes, for example, the lap difference between 4th and 16th place is like 0.8s, very tight and that's 100% fine, but between 4th and 1st place is almost 4 full seconds, that's like the 3 first positions were set at a difficulty above the rest of the grid.

Is that normal or should I set AI based ony on the 3 fastest AI drivers to be able to compete for victory at all?

Well it can depend on the car class, in the F-HitechG1 the model that represents the Williams is much faster, which is pretty accurate. In the Vintage G1 though the V12 is much faster which is not accurate, same with the German Touring, the Audi is much faster as it was in real life.

The game tries to simulate the real life racing of the classes it simulates, so in the older classes you might see a very big difference between the top and the rest, even with the same model sometimes, it should not happen in the more competitive classes thought.

I see your point but that's not it, the top three difference is too high to be anything close to reasonable. But I've finally figured out what was it.

After more testing, I've found out that what was causing this issue is when I click on "Skip to the end" button. If you stay during all session duration, all AI laptimes remains consistent (from first to last), but when you resume the session, for some reason (bug?), it drops the top 3 laptimes hugely.

Ex: difficulty set to 100, the AI leader (GT3 Gen2) lap time was 2 seconds under the world record time on Spa Francochamps, and 2s separated the top 3 AI. The 4th place was 5s behind. lol

Skip to end times in practice and qualy are bugged in most classes yes, but I dont get what you mean with resuming the session affecting the laptimes.

Resuming the session from pausing it? From alt tab the game? Or did you mean skip to end the session?

Yeah... I meant "Skip to the end of session". When I use that button, the bug happens.

It aims (and generally does) simulate the spread of field in that given class/ year of racing. For instance, if you look at the 1992 F1 grid its very spread out vs what you would see today. If you head to Race Department there's also some really great mods that will simulate the season with accurate drivers, liveries and performance.

I see, but i don't think that's the case cause the disparity is too big, and I mean really big. You gotta agree with me when the AI (set to 100) pole in GT3 Gen2 class in Spa is more than 2s faster than the world record on time trial, right?

After I figured out what was causing the "bug", it became clear to me. When I go through the whole session without using the skipping to the end of session button, the laptimes became very tight and within the difficulty level selected.

Anyway, I hope they fix it in upcoming patches.

Car / Track used: stock car 2019 (may be others), Daytona Nascar layout (may be others)
    AI Strength setting: 100
Corner (if issue is corner specific): start

At the race start at the back (max drivers for class), the AI just turn to the right and into the wall in some cases, as soon as the lights go off for a standing start. It seemed that higher up the grid went better. Starting at the back is next to the final chicane in this layout, don't know if that matters.

(Also general AI lines were poor, cutting the grass at turn 3 (? hairpin), and not using the low line on the banking, unless trying to overtake.)
