Reiza does incredible work. That’s why we’re all here.

It also leaves a lot to be desired, communications wise. That’s also why we’re all here, lol.

I don't fault Reiza for focusing resources on development. The quality of the product speaks for itself. I do wish, however, that Reiza would deputize a handful of its fans here to "take over" some marketing responsibilities and get updates, screenshots, videos, etc. out on a semi-regular basis.

Reiza clearly struggles with this. Promising updates, previews, videos, and more that never materialize seems to be more of a feature than a bug in AMS2's development. And... that's not great.

I started playing AMS2 in January and learning the lesson of “Reiza Time” has not been fun.

On the specific topic of 1.6 — the last update (prior to the team taking a break) was that 1.6 was "weeks, not months" away. We hit "months" on November 4. We're likely to miss that, right?

I disagree, I find Reiza's communications excellent. Let's not forget it is a relatively small studio. There was never a firm release date for the next update and it seems obvious that it is a lot bigger than anticipated initially.

    Take your time Reiza!

I would like to point out that a possible alternative to the, in my opinion, quite reasonable amount of openness and communication offered by the devs could be *too* much openness and communication. A good example of this is the company Universal Audio, a very famous brand of hardware and more recently high end software amongst audio engineers & music producers. They actually employ a full time person on forums and their facebook page to be in constant contact with interested fans/engineers/users online. That means the guy is online answering questions and being in touch with people all day, many times a day. And the general vibe there is not really very positive, he never really says anything definitive about launch dates or upcoming releases before they’re released, and in the end the result is much the same; People constantly ask questions that are impossible to answer without releasing unreleased details, and updates & new products are simply released when they are ready. And then, although they usually work, initial hotfixes for bugs on various untested user systems are offered in the weeks after release. I expect much the same here.

Reiza take your time and we will all be ready & excited to try it when 1.6 is released! Thank you!

You can't be a modern professional organisation without at least one dedicated communications officer in my opinion. I don't propose to tell Reiza how to organise or run their business but I work in communications and in my view they would benefit massively by delegating this stuff properly.

This sort of comment perfectly illustrates the problem:

It is a problem that official communications have to be written personally by Renato when he's not managing or developing. That is self-evidently a problem. There is no reason someone else couldn't write these things with Renato's input and final approval. Blaming paying customers for delays for taking an active interest in development, where their expectations have been set by confusing statements on timeframes that didn't need to be made, does not make that problem go away and is wildly unhelpful.

Good public communication is essential to the fortunes of any organisation, it is not 'nice to have', and quite frankly it's delusional to think otherwise in this day and age.

"expectations" is a strong belief that something will happen or be the case.

If the community continuously expected things in the summer and that won't happen it leads to

"disappointment" sadness or displeasure caused by the non-fulfilment of one's hopes or expectations.

Now the only thing Reiza has to do is not deliver any expectations that they can't meet. I think 95% of the community would be happy letting Reiza cook and deliver once things are ready, just don't give us faulty expectations.

To be fair to myself, my comment about us causing delays was a joke, in attempt to highlight that (the way they are currently set up and operate) if Reiza took time to respond to every query raised here then updates would be delayed, because that'd be time spent in the forum as opposed to making changes to the game.

I was not seriously suggesting that we are to blame for perceived delays, as any time spent in the forums is Reiza's own decision not ours.

Everyone in an organisation thinks their role is critical to the operation. In my view a communications dept are someway down the list. They ARE a nice to have. A small company can operate fine without that department. Sure if your Apple then that's a bit different and communications are needed. Given Reiza are very small Renato has to perform many roles and I guess he's in this forum merely in his capacity as a fellow sim racer & as a courtesy to the die hard fans in his spare time. We should be thankful for that. We hear nothing from the other sim developers for months or years, so I for one am glad that we have such a relationship with the head honcho. Let's not break that with our constant moaning and telling him how to run his company.

What a random player that saw both Devblogs on Steam (months ago) might be thinking right now?
Does he even remember about that? Is 1.6 on his radar or whislist? Does even matter?

About communication, I would be more worried what they do when It finnaly release: there be enough material to highlight How great the update is and all features?
It will be polished enough so people dont have second guesses?
How the influencers part is going to be handled?

ALL that worries me as it might bring more people to the game.

Whatever we are doing here, is just the niche of the niche.

To delay the update since Renato would need to spend some time posting emojis on forum instead of focusing one working on the update. Smart.

I spend this time tweaking things and doing a GPU upgrade to run 1.6 in 120Hz in VR and enjoy the new things.

Now I'll go back to the monkey to ride a cloud with Ray Tracing. Time optimized.
