Appreciate the video link, cool to see some 1.6 in the wet. With that said, that video thumbnail/preview makes me want to drown myself in a toilet. How did that style become the standard for "click me?"

Been years now that them youtubers are making stupid laughing/screaming/impressed faces for thumbnails. I have no idea who it appeals to, probably kids or something, or the weird YouTube algorithm, I dunno.

I remember someone talking about it ages ago. Apparently it's some psychological thing, humans are more likely to engage with something when we can see a "happy/excited" face.
This could be completely wrong, it's one of those "facts" that I don't remember the source.

I actually can't believe we are closing in on release now. Its been so long, 1.6 feels like a abstract meme at this point.

Does the 1.6 tires feel more connected and responsive equally on every track surface or does the game simulate the different asperities of the track surface?

In the Dev Update Pt.1 the following is mentioned:
"... its modelling (hysteresis) determines how deep a specific rubber compound can sink into the asperities of the track surface, and thus sustain peak adhesion for longer."

I would assume the surface quality (asperities) of IRL race tracks greatly differs and I wonder if this level of detail is also simulated in the game. I can easily imagine that this level of detail might be too much for current game engines.

Don't worry about the game engine, this level of detail is almost too much for our minds to handle! :)

The game already simulates different grip levels depending on the surface and it varies by track and even corners within the same track. For example in Barcelona, La Caixa hairpin has much lower grip than Seat, even though the apex speed is similar.

1.6 improves on the feel, but it's difficult to put into words, it's not a night/day difference, but it's there and it's good. Track temps are also much more important to keep tabs on, specially on classes with multiple tire compounds, different tracks will also have different tire wear severity.

Lots of cool stuff is simulated in the game, the Madness Engine can be quite mad, but has a lot of potential which Reiza are tapping into beautifuly.

Is there any comparison between 1.5 and 1.6 Enviroment Lighting changes Videos/Images?
Or any other Graphic changes except of the Exhaust glow?

The most immersion break for me is the poor rendering of the rain drops on the windshield. Maybe not possible to change because of the madness engine, but love to see like AC, iRacing.

yes to the first part . Subtle improvements in all aspects .
I agree on the rain drops , it varies from car to car , I live in hope for some improvements in next cycle , and hope for more Splodge ( droplet spread from wind force ) , rather than snaking drop runs .

Anyone tried the Vintage prototype mods that came out? I was holding on trying them since they could be outdated quickly, but I guess I'll just try those already, maybe it could help to cope with the wait.

Videos just don’t show it off very well , but if you had the opportunity to jump back from 1.6 to 1.5 after you have got accustomed to it , it stands out how much it’s changed.

Hopefully v1.6 will be released initially in the Release Candidate branch, so everyone who wants to can switch branches to compare before and after (at the cost of waiting for Steam to finish downloading&patching).
Tip: If you do that, make sure to keep a backup copy of your Automobilista 2 folder in Documents, one backup for 1.5 and one backup for 1.6. It should help you avoid having to set up everything again when you switch branch.

If I watch the videos from 1.6 (That's all I got), I see a major difference in graphics. The colours and lighting are looking way more natural. When I look at the RA race from Reiza video it's like watching an IMSA race on TV in some shots.
I never get that feeling in 1.5, or see that in 1.5 videos from someone else...

I think there's still quite a bit of difference between this:

    and this:

For one thing, there's no sign of that blueish distance fog that AMS 2 seems to apply so aggressively to the outside camera views and, even more importantly, the colours are much richer in the real life footage.
This also goes to show that the "undersaturation is realistic" approach that some seem to favour (not aimed at Reiza, but more at Reshade preset creators and such) is just terribly wrong.

Um, you may have a point, but remember this video may have had saturation effects added to it - it's not like the IMSA video is also filmed via a perfect unfiltered human eye lens, the high saturation of some of the colours is not something that is itself natural. I mean, the video is ****ing awesome, but let's not get confused and think it is ALSO the benchmark for reality...

(also, see the other IMSA video with the "sights and sounds" of road atlanta - absolutely so awesome, esp. the bit where the mustang sampling Porsche pulls out of the pit stop!)

On the other hand though, iRacing for example makes me sleepy just looking at it. I find those dull colours just so ugly

    Everyone’s monitors display colours differently.

I’ve recently found reducing Gamma and Digital vibrancy down about ten points each in Nvidia colour settings has greatly improved my realism of colours and tint while making sure to leave monitors in a default state with no built in viewing type presets . worth a try if you find greens to green or whites to white etc .

    It’s very very true

People need to invest a bit time in their monitors but also NVIDIA / AMD GPU settings

I am personally a big fan of Reshade as the amount of variation you can play with is amazing, including in VR
