Yes, the users are causing the hype, but they weren't the ones who announced half a year ago that a "gamechanger"(?) update was coming soon(!) to the game, making everyone's jaws drop... And for many people, soon means a few weeks. I think that's why there's so much dissatisfaction.

I hope that a few days after the arrival of 1.6, they will announce the arrival of 1.7 (soon!), which will be much, much better than 1.6! :):):)

I'm sure there will continue to be premature announcements, but a step that is as big as 1.6 in terms of physics will not be possible because there's not going to be enough room to improve. From now on I think the gains there will be more subtle.

For sure 1.6 is not perfect, but it brings the content on a significantly higher baseline standard than what we've had previously. In 1.5.6, there's a significant number of car classes I would have rated around 1-2/10 for driving enjoyment.

In 1.6., the lowest values are around 3-4/10, and they're all for certain classes in wet weather. In the dry I don't think I'd rate anything below a 6/10.

I don't think it's possible to properly simulate the exact behavior of so many cars in a game.

I agree, and yet there's a middle ground between "simulating exact behaviour" and "being obviously completely off". I think 1.6 at least hits that middle ground for all cars I've driven (which includes almost all cars, except street cars and karts). 1.5.6. had some really bad eggs in between, e.g. the entire GT3 class, the F-Inter, driving in the rain in general or all Caterhams.

I hope that the dev blog addresses the whole process that they have been through and why the update took several months longer than first expected.

Not that I think Reiza must explain themselves, it's just that I am genuinely interested.

The reasons are far more mundane and less elaborate than many people think they are: They had a new set of tools to improve their sim at their disposal and kept tinkering/improving far longer than they initially thought they would.

The effect of the changes to hysteresis was underestimated initially (e.g. Renato saying the revisions would be less profound than those of 1.5 at the start of the cycle).

Yes, and every advancement has a knock-on effect where it leads to further exploration and even more advancement. It's a part of being driven to improve knowledge / understanding / and ultimately, the end product. Reiza demonstrates this constantly through their passion to push the limits further and further.

Been there, done that! As a former mechanic and construction dude, you never really know what you got until you tear it all apart. Sometimes it all goes together like in the manual and sometimes, the job gets way more complex once you see what reality says. You still gotta figure out how to put it back together.
    And then...
While everything is all laid out before you, you realize that what's being repaired was not engineered as intended. You could put back together if you're just looking at the bottom line. But Reiza is on a mission to deliver the most immersive sim title out there. Yeah, it takes longer, but in the long run, everyone is better off. Sounds like these new tools while bring massive improvements down the line. Worth the wait, IMO.

So after reading so much about raceroom in here (never thought I'd say that) I decided to give it another go...
    Verdict
    Cars- amazing
    Physics- great
    AI- poor
    FFB... Not for me...
There's a reason I personally keep coming back to Reiza products and it's because they pay attention to granular details. The update will come when it comes they're not sitting on it to annoy anyone they're working on getting it right. The one thing every said they should have done in 2020!!! You can't win as a developer/software engineer.

Also took another look at R3E since it's been a couple years since I played it. I got as far as seeing the 50% price increase and said nope, not for me. Used to be 7,500 vrp (50 U.S.), now 10,000 vrp (75 U.S). I already paid for Premium twice, not going there again. I do wish them good luck, though. Just not with my cash.
