Hello everyone, just a basic question.Do we need the entire game and steam running to set a server or is it available a standalone server pack to run a dedicated server? Thank you.
The full game is nearly 17Gb, but there`s a Dedicated Server Tool that has around 10 to 11 Gb. You can use both of them to create the server. And yes, you need Steam running (even on Offline mode) for it to work.
Also Steam does not even need to be logged in for the AMS servers to work. It just needs to be running. I use steamcmd to update my separate servers. So once you install AMS you can log out if you like.
@Dann , okay , here we go....So you can make it work with steam CMD .But i´m still looking for the server tool....
Some have reported the same issue a while ago! Send a direct message do @Renato Simioni saying that it doesn't show on your list and he will take a look! If i'm not mistaken, The tool appid = 447760 if you want to use steam cmd.
FYI, I have never used the server tool and I have 10 AMS servers loaded. I just use normal installations of the game.
@KoshaPashkin First thing you need to do is to copy the Profile folder and have as many folders as servers you need (Ex.: DedicatedServer, DedicatedServer1, DedicatedServer2). On each profile folder, the .PLR file inside must match the folders name (DedicatedServer1 -> DedicatedServer1.PLR; DedicatedServer2 -> DedicatedServer2.PLR). Then, on each Multiplayer.ini file, you need to increase one number on the 4 ports: 1st Server: Query Port Start="34597" Port Start="34697" Authenticator Port="8766" Master Server Updater Port="27016" 2nd Server: Query Port Start="34598" Port Start="34698" Authenticator Port="8767" Master Server Updater Port="27017" and so on. After that (make sure you open/forward all of the above ports), on the Dedicated executable you just have to select each profile to start the Server !
@Phil If you're running the Dedicated tool, execute it one time! It will create a folder 'DedicatedServer' on your Userdata. Inside it, there will be the Multiplayer.ini file.
So, do I understand this right, even that we could download and install the dedicated server tool via steamcmd (logged in as anonymous and using app_update <dedicated ID = 447760>), there is now way to then configure it and launch it from the "AMS Dedicated" exe? Or how is it done, when I have rent a root windows server but have no extra steam account on this. Do I have to install a full featured version of steam, create a new steam account and launch it from there?
You can start and configure the server without steam, but when you finish the configuration and the server starts, it will crash if it doesn`t find the steam.exe running. Like Dann Murilo said, you just need steam installed and running on the background: "Also Steam does not even need to be logged in for the AMS servers to work. It just needs to be running."
That did the trick ... the server starts without crashing, and gets listed now, but now I and my fellow simracers get a "Joined timed out" message when we try to connect?! Whats now going wrong? I have opened up in the Windows 2012 server firewall UDP Ports: 34597, 34697, 8766, 27016 and the two other Ports for the matchmaker: TCP: 40001 UDP: 40002 Am I missing something else?
