Severe tire carcass overheating after few laps

    Hi everyone,
    I’m having a massive issue with tire carcass temperatures.
    After just 2 or 3 laps, the tire carcass completely overheats and goes straight into the red zone (100°+), especially on the loaded side.
    The only thing that seems to prevent this extreme carcass deflection and overheating is overinflating the tires to around 2+ bar hot pressure. However, doing this ruins the tire profile—the middle zone (M) gets hotter than the edges, the contact patch shrinks, and I lose overall grip. If I lower the pressure to get a proper I-M-O temperature spread, the carcass immediately starts flexing too much and overheats again. My brake ducts are already open, so it's not a brake temperature issue.
    Has anyone else encountered this problem in AMS2? How do you balance preventing carcass overheating without overinflating the tires? Any setup advice or recommendations on springs, bump stops, or camber adjustments would be highly appreciated!

    Which car and tyres, track, weather etc?

    I had the same issues with the mini JCW on rain tyres but I think that has been patched out (not sure as I haven't been able to play much since)

    Definitely need more information please :)

    I've had this occur running Slick D in F1-Classic Gen4 on a hot track, otherwise it only ever happens running wets or inters on a dry track. I never adjust tyre pressures.

    What tyres are you using and what is the track temperature when this is happening?

    Just completed 4 laps with a track temp of 40C, didn't realise these only had "Track" tyres. No issues with over-temperature.

    Are you possibly overdriving/drifting through corners? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause you to be getting such high temperatures.

    Thanks for jumping in and engaging with the question!
    My track temperatures are actually very close to yours, and my tread temperatures look almost identical to what you are seeing (which you can check in the telemetry screenshot I attached in my previous post).
    However, it is important to note that the HUD and basic telemetry mostly display the tread temperature, whereas my specific issue is with the tire carcass overheating.
    As a reminder, Automobilista 2 utilizes the Seta Tire Model (STM), which splits the tire physics and thermodynamics into three distinct layers:
    1. The "Flash" Layer: This is the ultra-thin surface layer in direct contact with the tarmac. It reacts instantly to sliding, lock-ups, and wheelspin, spiking in temperature and cooling down just as quickly through tire scrub.
    2. The "Tread" Layer: This is the bulk rubber layer sitting in the middle. It acts as a buffer, getting influenced by both the surface friction from the flash layer and the internal heat from the core. This is the temperature we normally see in the UI/HUD.
    3. The "Carcass" Layer: This represents the internal structure, belts, and sidewalls of the tire. It doesn't heat up from surface sliding; instead, it generates heat internally due to structural deflection (flexing under load) and radiant heat absorbed from the brakes.
    In my case, the tread looks perfectly fine and green on the HUD, but the underlying carcass layer is flexing so hard under the vintage high-profile sidewalls that it builds up immense internal heat.

    You definitely seem to know a lot more about this than I do! My only other thought at this point is that it's potentially a limitation of old tyre design, but I don't have access to any such IRL telemetry to make a comparison.

    Hopefully one of the Devs can chip in with some feedback?

    Just ran a stint with the same combo and I halfway agree. Tyre telemetry follows that exact pattern, but my core temps didn't spike as high as yours. Forgot to grab a screenshot of the BPT Setup Manager app I run via SimHub, but highly recommend it for live telemetry during practice.

    Thanks for the recommendation! The BPT Setup Manager app is indeed really good, especially calculating target values. it's really usefull!
