Sorry to hear you have trouble with the app. No, I haven't done any editing in some time. And since I just discovered the app is no longer supported on my device (running Android 4.2.2), even though the dev says it supports down to 4.0.2 as long as the Google Play Store works, this means I no longer get any updates for the app (and can't even re-install it in case I ever uninstall it from my device).

But as for your problem, I ran an update for the Server App and when my tablet is connected to the network and SIM Dashboard is running, I can connect to the usual network address just fine (using LibreWolf and Firefox browsers). A couple of questions:
    • Do you use an Android or Apple device?
    • Which OS on your PC?
    • Is there any other software (VPN, Antivirus/Antimalware, etc. that could interfere, i.e. by intercepting your URL input?
    • Can you check the connection to your device in the Server App? With your device connected to your network and SIM Dashboard running it should give positive results both for Ping and Connection.
What you describe is definitely an unusual behavior; your browser should always accept IP addresses. The only other thing I could think of would be that some software messed with your Windows hosts file, basically telling your computer to resolve the IP address for your device as something else instead (i.e. Google search).

OK so I managed to finally trace the source of the problem and it was due to the spanner behind the wheel . After a great deal of googling and trying different browsers, getting increasingly frustrated, I got a clue from one search; the last number in the IP address for the design editor was separated by a colon not a full stop, but due to deteriorating eyesight, I had read it wrong from the mobile screen. So I have to own up to careless stupidity :)
What threw me off was that this is a common problem, seemingly without a fix, that address bars these days search for things when you don't want them to and it seems there's no way to turn it off, but I was looking down the wrong rabbit hole.
@XTRMNTR2K Thanks ever so much for the reply, I appreciate you taking the time to try and help.
