I was thinking and the problem is related to the career mode. First of all I would like to say that I'm not really crazy about It because I do my championships and all of that. So for me they can delay It until they have all the features ready that they want to implement. But I understand that there are a lot of people that have been waiting for It during a long time. A proof of It is all the career apps that appeared lately. First We had Racing Life, then Race Peace, now Zero to Apex... And this apps are getting better. Some of them are really good in fact. So for me as I said, is not really important because I haven't even tried It. I just saw videos. But for the people that tried them I was thinking that maybe the official career mode could be disappointing. What coul Reiza bring new to the table to make a better career mode than this apps appart from the native implementation in the game? Because this apps are very complete. Of course I trust Reiza because I've never been disappointed with them and they always manage to shock us. But this is different, I'm really curious about it.
Why are people always talking about delays on the career mode? Reiza was always pretty transparent that it will be only happen in the very late lifecycle of the AMS2. In early 2025 Renato stated in an Overtake interview that it's not expected in 2025. In the early 2026 dev update career is outlined for a later half of 2026 release. So we're still on the timeframe they are stating for a long time. While I appriecate what tools modders create, they will never be as easy to use and immersive as an ingame solution. So no matter if the approach how career works will differ to external tools, it will always be easier to access and better to manage while sitting in a rig. Here's teaser Renato dropped in the interview how diverse the career mode will be: "It's going to be very much driver-centric for the most part, and the interesting part is that you can start as a Brazilian driver in the 60s, or you can be a British driver in the 80s, or a modern driver in the United States and take your timeline from that point", explained Simioni. "There are so many possibilities in terms of where to start, where to go and how it all develops."
Listen, It's what people say. People say that "there's is nothing to do in the game". For me there are plenty of things to do. For me they can take another year. Regarding what Renato said, so you won't be able to be yourself in the career mode? You have to be someone else?
Honestly people will always "say", doesnt matter where and why, there's always a complaint and a praise in pretty much equal terms. The career mode will exist, when? I dont know, for now, we have the modded career modes which are fantastic and in time we'll have the official one. Is it going to be better? I dont know. But hey, the modded ones are not going to dissapear, so you'll end up having both. Whats the problem then?
I share your feeling here, I tried Zero to Apex and it is indeed quite complete. I am more hyped by that than afraid eventhough my expectations for an official career mode are not so high. I hope it helps them being inspired by some mechanics here and there. And I am reasonably hyped by what people can do in such short time with no official tools or devkit. Fingers crossed for a great Career Mode
I have always thought AMS2 needs a good API to use it as a sandbox and the community could do the rest. Well, the Zero to Apex guy basically did that by dll injection and made a great app. For me, the problem is there are dozens of apps and no good app is opensource, so it can be tweaked enough to make it the way you want. The problem is even worse with online racing, there are many services, and with online services this is critical because it divides the community.
The reality of the situation is that the people who are only waiting for AMS2 to get a career mode will still be disappointed when it releases, no matter how good it is, because it won't live up to their preconceived expectations of what it should look like. Don't worry too much about what people are saying now. A year after career mode releases nobody will be talking about it anymore because there won't be anything to speculate about, and the people who were holding off on playing AMS2 due to its absence will either still not play AMS2 (Because what they actually want is Forza or Need for Speed), or they will play it. Or they'll be playing it whilst shouting "dead game!!!" and "it sucks!!!" That's just the reality of the way gamers behave these days.
I know career mode is important to a lot of people, but since we have championships in the game right now, I hope we can get the most improvements out that mode first. SpaceYam is spot on about all the people who say they've been holding off because of career mode. People build up perceived expectations because something is not in the game and want it just because it's not there. I like a lot of sims and I barely played career mode in the ones that have them and I am a single player mostly person.
Zero to Apex is a fantastic mod but it still has some bugs and calibration of the adaptive AI that almost everyone uses. Personally, I'm not using that, but a fixed AI until the calibration is perfect. Reiza won't and shouldn't have the same career path. As Renato said, it will be a journey through the decades of motorsport. Which, in terms of philosophy, would be more in keeping with the spirit of the game. I think it will be awesome, when Zero to Apex is more mature and new features are implemented, to play 2 different careers.
What an Official Career Mode and 3rd Party Apps provide is one simple thing; Choice. Exactly the same way all these racing sims provide for us now, choices in what we want to do, I see absolutely no harm in having more choices. What 1 career app might do the official one might do better, then another might do something different which eclipses them both but it falls short in other areas. No single career mode is going to please everybody, users will gravitate towards the one they like the most and just like the base simulation itself no career mode is going to be perfect. I think it's a good thing to have these choices, it means there's continued interest in AMS2 as a whole and long may that continue.
I would like them to do the following: 1) Similar to how now, AMS2 can be launched with the instruction to enter a particular multiplayer race - e.g. from justrace or lfm, to allow third party software to post a "requested single race(s)" - maybe in the form of an XML file. And to post/append the results of the race to another XML file. Then very quickly there would be a good choice of easy and reliable/supported career apps integrated, whether it be career-style or car-collecting style, whatever people want. 2) Fix the championships. Get somebody (maybe a short-term contract or even crowd-source) to sort out the championships. a) Comparing the list of default championships to the seasons they are based on and the tracks available, to flag up all the missing tracks, e.g. Mosport should be in some of the F1 seasons of the 60s and 70s. b) Flag up all the classes that don't have any default championship and create them. If there is no real world championship to inspire then just completely invent them as fictional championships. Then those of us who can imagine our own career and just want Reiza to count the points will be happy. 3) A lower priority 1) and 2) would be creating the Reiza internal career mode, which sounds interesting but I think is not going to be played as much as Zero to Apex.
