Yesterday I installed Project Cars 2, which AMS2 is actually based on (it uses the same engine), and sure enough, I noticed that the throttle (on/off switch) and brakes (locking up too quickly) works properly in PC2 instead of AMS2. This confirms for me that this is indeed a long-standing AMS2 issue. I tested AMS1, RF2, ACC, AC, GTR2, and so on, none of them have that annoying throttle and brake behavior. I’m therefore asking the devs to fix this, because it’s been an issue for years, as you can see for yourself if you look into it.

Lower brake and throttle sensivity in the settings to 35 or 40. That would help.

I did but it didn' t solved it, in PC2 both on 50 and no problem at all, no on/off throttle switch and no lock ups

Strange,i do not have that behavior. since i lowered the sensivity i can better react to the traffic without bumpin' them in the bake while brakeing. (Thrustmaster TS-PC)

Well when I drive a GT1 without ABS and TC in PC2 I got a normal brake behavior no lock ups with 50 sensitive and 95 brake pressure. In AMS2 I had lower the sensitive to 10 and brake pressure to 80 in the same car. In PC2 I can control the throttle, but in AMS2 it's just like an on/off switch.

Not for me and I drive plenty of the non-TC/ABS stuff (mostly that kind of cars actually).

Maybe cause you use a custom FFB file wich does not like your wheel.
I tryed Daniels file too and did as recommended lower the sensivity to 10 for TH/BR
I did not like it so i decided to use my old Reiza FFB with sensivity to 40 and voila, works.

I don't understand, this is basically the opposite of my experience. I basically never lock the brakes up in the GT1 class, they've got so much downforce.
Is it possible to take a video of your experience with the UI on so we can see your pedal inputs?
Are you sure you're not just holding the brake too hard for too long?

He has the issue that his pedals somehow only work binary for a long time, but doesn't react to any request trying to help to get any kind of footage at best with shown the software pedal inputs. There seems something seriously wrong with the setup/configuration that imho won't solve itself or won't be different with further AMS2 versions.

So yeah, for really strong statement like pedal is working like an on/off switch, please try to really check every component in the right sequence. Is pedal input recognized correctly in the pedal software? If so, go into any AMS2 testday, don't drive or do anything, just slowly press brake and throttle and watch the tiny indicators in the HUD gauge if your brake and throttle and smoothly go from zero to full extend as they should. If that works too, install a input monitor overlay so you can trace your brake and throttle input through corners, use things like Nvidia recording feature to capture moments where corners felt off so you can analyse your input through the corner

That lock up issue and throttle switch is a problem from years, so much people talk about this issue years ago till now, so it is a serious problem. Like I said before PC2 with the same engine hasn't that problem, for now I enjoy PC2 more than AMS2.

No such issues here. I'm not suggesting you're wrong, just that you are experiencing an issue related to your specific system / hardware + AMS2.

So and other games are fine without these issues, than this is a AMS2 issue for years and nothing to do with hardware or system.

You are talking about this as it would be some universal issue/trait oif the sim, but it's definitely not. You might have a issue and maybe some others have such issue that is related to some combination of hardware/software and the game engine, but it has to be very rare as it's not something that comes up (I'm quite active following AMS2 and have been for some years now and I don't remember anybody else than you complaining about this) .

IF it's really binary for you, it shouldn't be too hard to show in ways already mentioned in above replies. Do you see this binary behavior already when calibrating your pedals in the game? I'm saying this because you are complaining about this on "physics" thread and if it would be actually binary, it would be clear bug/hardware problem and nothing to do with physics of the game (and of course make the game totally unplayable)

Brake and throttle definitely ain't binary in the game when it comes to physics. Sure, it can be sensitive at times and I also find using lower brake senstivity that default (I use around 25) makes it easier to handle (especially trailing and threshold braking). I also lower brake sensitivity in the setup of the car if it wants to lockup in the hardest braking zone of the track when hitting 100% input (or close to it). Some of the cars tend to start locking up even clearly under 100% input using on default setup (even with warm brakes/tires) for example, so in those I definitely want to lower the brake pressure and also tend to adjust my braking inputs accordingly as well (try with threshold braking, so brake in straight line and trying to find the what is the amount input you can give before it locks up/ ABS kicks in and keep it under that)

That all is still simplifying things of course, naturally there is more to it what comes to how much brake pressure / input the car can take at any given point, like is it just fronts, rear, both, single tire, setup, aero, speed etc.

With throttle I have it on default and don't have any binary - input issues.

    Citation needed.
It's not that I don't believe you - I just want to be sure that I understand you. I have seen reports of throttle on/off behavior before, but a similarly worded description does not mean that they are describing the same phenomenon as you.

Here are some examples of what people have meant with throttle on/off switch in AMS2 throughout the years:
    1. An actual input mapping or sensitivity problem. This can be verified by driving in AMS2 with the detailed HUD that shows your throttle input, to see if you can get the bar to change smoothly or if it changes abruptly.
    2. The Heusinkveld throttle response. If you're used to other sims where the throttle action happens at the top 30% of the pedal travel, paradoxically AMS1 and AMS2 can seem like an on/off switch at the bottom 30% of pedal travel. For example when coasting through a corner and then just barely touching the throttle, the car will shift weight balance abruptly. But you wrote earlier that AMS1 does not have your problem, and it has the same throttle response as AMS2, so I think we can rule out this one.
    3. Grass being too slippery is a common topic that is necromanced.
    4. Some players, in particular those who like driving cars in AMS2 that have a locking diff and traction control, have reported (pretty much since AMS2 v1.0) that when powering out of a corner, the car would immediately step out into a wide slip angle, hyperbolically labeled as "drifting". I've seen people describe this as an on/off switch. There have been many different things to fix. Some of it is due to the tires, some of it is due to the locking diff, some of it is due to the traction control implementation. Many of these different issues have gradually been fixed in AMS2 updates, I think the most significant fixes began with v1.3, … v1.6, and now also the v1.7 physics that have partially made it into the current release.
      1. Here is a thread about one such issue that has been fixed. Note that in that thread, people were also struggling to describe what was going on, which highlights how important it is to be specific in your report and to provide easily reproducible scenarios for us (and Reiza) to test.
    5. One change in vehicles that have received 1.7 physics is, in my experience, that longitudinal tire slip now can happen more abruptly, and that the tires keep slipping for longer. Contrast this to behavior in earlier versions of AMS2 where once the wheels started slipping a bit, they would in some conditions magically regain a bit of grip, possibly due to thermodynamics? AMS2 tires basically felt stickier than other sims and then when you eventually ran out of grip, it would happen more suddenly and without much warning in the force feedback.

OIther games running fine don't prove anything except that hardware side is probably working okay, but drivers related to that hardware or something in your system might cause some conflict with the AMS2 engine (especially if it's the same on pC2) that others don't have.

That is not a physics issue if that is the case

Are you saying your actual input become binary, like throttle is either 100% or 0%, or that it FEELS that way because the rear wheels spin up and you lose control with what feels like very little throttle?

It’s to sensitieve even with the slider on 10 and this is something people complain years about same with the lock up brake issue. It’s sad that fans of AMS2 don’t wanna listen to it like AMS2 is a holy thing, but for now I stop with this subject and have fun with PC2.

I don’t use cloud and one drive at all.

What pedal set are you using?

Nobody acts like AMS 2 is a holy thing.

Who are these people you are refering to?
I've also come here every day for several years now and I haven't known that this is an issue with AMS 2 that many people would have reported.

It would be very helpful if you answered the questions of the people who actually want to help you.
Can you provide a video which shows your inputs?

    As for me:
I have played AMS 2 with a load cell brake pedal (T-LCM) and without (G27 pedals). I've never come across such issues: When I lock up it's my fault (too much brake pressure applied). With the G27 pedals it was way more difficult because I had to remember the distance of the brake pedal. With the T-LCM braking has become so much easier. It doesn't happen often that I lock up, although I increase brake pressure to 100% in the setup menu most of the time because I'm under the impression that I can brake better (i.e. I can judge better when to brake and how uch pressure I have to apply).

So again: It would really be helpful if we could see your inputs when you are driving.

When I press the throttle halfway down, the engine goes to full throttle. I’ve tested this with several different car brands and it’s always the same story. I set the sensitivity slider to 10 but it makes absolutely no difference, I calibrated the pedal in the game nothing, I recalibrated it in the pedal software and again no difference. Now, you can say what you want, but this is definitely an AMS2 issue none of the other racing games have this problem.
