Ive opened up a thread on the support section of AMS2 regarding the problem of being unable to launch via SteamVR with an Oculus headset.
Would be useful if anyone with this issue could chime in and keep the topic near the top.
Quite frankly, its more than a little irritating that not one developer, or member of staff will even reply to any questions regarding this or even acknowledge the issue.

I am however quite persistant, and will keep raising this until something is done, or even better, native openXR support comes

what do you expect with a 2070.
This was strong enough for an Oculus CV1 but outdated for a Quest 2 with about doubled resolution ( 4 times pixelcount )
Even with a 3080 you can't get the best quality

2070 is enough for 72 fps in optimal conditions at max res using FSR. The key is having a good toolset to achieve this. Rfactor and assetto corsa and other games runs perfectly using openxr toolkit, vrperfkit, open composite etc. The fact you can't start steamvr is the principal issue. You can avoid that using virtual desktop but then, other problems appears. So, It is the snake that bites its own tail.

You can use vrperfkit with the Oculus runtime, there is no need to start the game in SteamVR for that toolkit.

I've used it and it works as expected. I don't know if the other toolkits for SteamVR are better or not tough.

On the Quest 2 I prefer to reduce the FOV settings in the Debug Tool to gain a lot more headroom, so I can raise supersampling factor and use MSAA medium in game. For me, I'ts a lot better than using any upsampling toolkit.

The sweetspot is opencomposite, with openxr toolkit. No performance impact on the vr launcher side + lot of tweaking.

I understand. Anyway, by tweaking the FOV values in ODT you gain a lot of performance headroom so no need for any upscaling technique or image quality compromise. By each to their own preferences I guess.

It depends on the chosen headset and the quality you expect to reach.
Quest 2 maybe struggle, Rift S perhaps you can run AMS2 at 100% resolution and no SS.
I would watch some videos with rx580 with VR to ensure before going in.

I used to run a rift s with a 580 at 1.2 in ott but I need space warp on. I upgraded to get rid of space warp but the game was playable with the 580. I dunno about now though as performance doesn't seem to get the optimisation that it once did.

there is a big difference between playable and having fun.

I remember a friend of mine with a 1070 and a Rift CV1, who was really happy with his system. Then he visited me and tried out the HP Reverb powered by a 3090 and the first comment was " oh boy, that's unfair "

Unfortunatelly in VR its really "you get what you pay for".
THere is not much room for cheap out on something

    Sad truth.
There are no shortcuts for VR performance.
You can tweak it here and there, but depending on the headset you need a lot of power.

Did anyone test the 5800x3D CPU with AMS VR? I have a 5600x and want to know if I'll benefit from this upgrade.

I saw big performance gains in ACC and iRacing, but no video in AMS2 VR.

I went from a 5800X to a 5800X3d, but didn't really see any difference in AMS2, which was running fine beforehand anyway without any CPU bottleneck or CPU induced stutters.

I seem to be getting a better VR image by setting antialiasing in Nvidia Control Panel to Enhance the application setting. I'm running Trilinear in game and MSAA medium.

There does not appear to be a big performance impact.

With a 4090 and HP G2, I found VR looks much better with MSAA Medium. This allows more headroom to Render at 130% (using OpenXR Toolkit).

If you set the G2 to 60hz in WMR settings, it will allow you to run 200% resolution in SteamVR. The picture quality is incredible!

Have you tried it for any length of time? I'm wondering about the possibility for eye-strain with that low refresh rate.
