I find SteamVR and OpenComposite look pretty much the same. I've been using OpenComposite but changed back to SteamVR so I can use fpsVR which I find very useful. I never bothered with OpenXR Toolkit, so really saw no benefit to using OC for my needs. OpenXR Toolkit is deprecated software with no new updates coming, so at some point it's likely to break, another reason to avoid it. I also use Virtual Desktop, not wired.

"Don't buy the Steam app one, that's more of a VR desktop for using the headset as a monitor."

Actually, it's for older headsets like the Rift S.

Because it is a great Vr set with awesome lenses. I use it with a link cable, not via WiFi. For me it works perfectly. 90FPS in the highest settings.
It is a no brainer for that money. :D

Yes. It's not going to send a wifi signal to your headset. It's for viewing your desktop in VR on a regular wired headset - hence the name "virtual desktop" ha ha

I found it mandatory to to use OpenXR toolkit to get a good enough performance that works in all conditions (dark and rain) using the foveated rendering. Only other option with similar results was to use link cable and limiting the fov a lot vertically. Maybe it's not needed with something like 4090, but for it is ( I have 3080).

I have a 4080, but keep my FPS at 72 and only use High settings in AMS2, with shadows and reflections at Low. In VD I use Ultra, not Godlike setting. H.264+ @ 350 bitrate.

Using fpsVR my GPU on an overcast day hovers at 60-65% usage. I don't find cranking settings up give enough of a visual advantage to use my GPU as a space heater. Dark and rain are brutal for certain and I avoid them whenever possible as I don't enjoy racing in those conditions.

hello vr men ,does anyone get white streaky lines in vd it makes the image blurry i have tried all mods 72 90 and 120 it happens in all of them ,I use open composite so latency and frametime is all low
By the way i have settled for 120 fps as the 7900 overheats with the other mods , but actually its running at 60 fps and have h24 + at 350 the other ones dont work for me

After today Windows 11 update, I can run this thing with ALL SETTINGS ULTRA, 1.1 Supersampling with Quest 2 max resolution FOV .675/.375 in 120Hz, only ASW rain/headlights and a lot of cars, with my 4070 Super, Link Cable.

This update solves something here, for sure.

Performance was OK, but glitches and FPS drops when ASW kick in with 120hz.

    What update (Windows version?)

    I'm on Win11 24H2 but, the last 2 updates can't install (errors - KB5046617 & KB5046740).

Why not just disable ASW ? It was the first thing i turned off when i bought Virtual Desktop and it made the performance perfect.

Because it's Impossible to run with 120 FPS at rain with headlights on.

Do you mean SSW? ASW does not exist at VD.
As far as I understand, the Oculus Debug Tool settings are disabled when using Virtual Desktop. If not, I've been doing something wrong for years.

No, you are correct. Debug tool options are only for when using Meta link.

My goal was 120FPS locked with full grid with all cars and all tracks without water spray/rain/headlights, and more than 60FPS when hell was unleashed.
