On a subconcious level i still take notice of everything in the environment. Just because the car is faster does not mean i would be fine with removing every single tree in the game to have more fps, or disable rain effects and turn off wet track surface for more fps either. If some people would want that then sure they can go ahead, but i wouldn't. At most set it to low detail so it is still present.

I will admit that I did not even register that trees were 2d sprite-type (like Doom baddies!) until i saw mention in the updates of 3d trees being brought to Spielberg. Then when I noticed it it was a bit offputting but kind of charming.

Opinions differ on this. I prefer to keep an eye on 90 frames and low latency. With enough headroom, the force feedback stays rich and full for me. On my system, I've noticed that AMS2 can be deceptive. Everything looks and runs fine at high settings. But the game sloshes around in the background. Inputs and outputs are slightly delayed. This even leads to the AI (on Ultra) hesitating and not seizing opportunities as quickly as on low settings. I've noticed this phenomenon with AMS2 on my system. AMS2 runs visually clean, but the reactions are delayed more than in other simulations for me. My system is simply reaching its limits when it comes to playing AMS2 at full capacity. (4070)

P.S. But we're really lucky with AMS2. It looks fantastic even on low/medium.

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the desktop mirror from the left to the right eye?

Which headset? Video or game? Which renderer? SteamVR? Oculus Link? Virtual Desktop? AVR?

    OculusMirror.exe
Or Sidequest or maybe Oculus Game Optimizer.

Sidequest was basically useless with the recording/casting ability of the quest 3. Was trying not to use the mirror app since it drops a bit of detail compared to the regualr mirror. Ill probably downscale the oculus mirror recording to 1440p if i edit it, that might help

Spend a fortune on a new computer, but it really is worth it for VR. Finally able to run night, day, rain with zero stutter and 90fps. Smooth frames while driving at sunset in heavy rain with sunrays shining through the trees is a jaw dropping experience.

9800X3D / 5090 / 64GB. Playing on Reverb G2 with Oasis driver. Currently still MED settings and around 2800x2800 per eye setting. I can probably crank it up still, but already enjoying this.

Tested on Nurburgring with 27 cars (all visible) still need to try more demanding race settings though

I'm really curious how TAA will impact the visuals in VR.

So i apparently cant read and didnt see where Reiza said their TAA impemetation was different to that of the Unreal engines's.
If it at least gets about 80% there in terms of visual clarity and sharpness of MSAA X8 with less than half of the performance costs and it eliminates shimmering, I'll be happy.

Built a PC with the same specs and have the same headset as you. Also using Oasis driver. I have ingame everything to ultra besides grass and particles to medium. In Steam VR I set AMS2 resolution to 150%. The GPU usage is at around 50-70%. You definitely can crank it up way more. I play at 31xx x 31xx resolution. In rain it can get up to 75-80% but still headroom of 20%. It looks absolutely stunning.

To run performance tests, set up a race in Suzuka (Kansai) at night or at dawn. Unfortunately, this is where Automobilista 2's non-optimization issues come into play. Not all tracks have them, but even Hockenheim suffers from them. Obviously, I'm talking about using cars with headlights.

Yes, today I tried the Lambo GT1 in Monza at 6am and was surprised. Not only were the frames at 60-70FPS but also it was a pixel festival. I get the FPS drop but not sure why that pixel thing is happening. The Anti Aliasing completely disappears. Once the gaps of the cars grew, the FPS jumped back to 90FPS and the pixel mess cleared up.

If you really want a test. race at night but put your car at the FRONT of the grid... ie first place.. Not the back. This will properly test performance. Placing yourself last on the grid at night is no test because you need headlights behind you.. Thats the frame rate killer.

I tested at Le Mans with 47 cars, starting in front. Motion Smoothing kicked in. I then changed to show max 25 cars and it is again at 90fps at night, heavy rain. I put SteamVR to 140% (3000x3000 pixels) max GPU usage is 70% so still quite some headroom, but I did need to limit visible cars.

I'll test this soon. thanks for the suggestion.

Kansai and Hockenheim still let it go to motion smoothing. When it does go to 90fps, GPU usage is actually 90ish %
