I know this isn't exactly the type of answer you're looking for, but I moved away from windows 10 last year sometime and have been using the Oasis driver with the G2 on Windows 11. It's fantastic, gives a bit better performance imo compared to the stock open composite dll, is native to steam, and once you've got it installed and working, it just works!

 

Eyetracking is possible already with PSVR2 and DesktopXR.

 

Thanks mate. Those settings are very close to what I ended up with to get as close as possible to Meta Link but the image is still a few steps behind. I guess Meta has the edge with charity and sharpness.

VD's "Additional Sharpening" also introduces some strange banding (especially in the sky) that is distracting. Meta doesn't have this issue.

I guess I can have stability or image quality but not both.

I haven't been in my rig for over a year and am now looking for the latest settings for the Quest 3 after all the updates.
I've read that there are performance issues. Is that still the case?
Is Virtual Desktop worth using?
It would be great if someone could link me to the relevant comment as I didn't see it when I was looking through.

I understand your reluctance to move to windows 11, but you might consider looking at the Rufus installer that will allow you to choose the kind of windows you want and not the one the corporation tries to force everyone on to. I was in the same boat for a long time but recently a few months back built a new pc and used Rufus to install a genuine ms windows 11 but with my choices, like no bloatware, no enforced TPM etc and have been more than happy with the outcome and I doubt anyone was more ANTI bloat/spyware than me.

 

Thanks for the hint - I am aware about the Oasis Driver and I have to admit I am a bit jealous that it only exists for Windows 11. Still, this fact didn't make me want to move to Windows 11 ....

Thank you as well! I have been using Rufus several times to prepare Windows 11 installation media for others and it really creates a nice clean initial installation.

What I don't like with Win11 is the way, how MS is "selling" new "features" to the users and the overall "quality" of their updates and I think you can not really control this, even not with Rufus. The updates for Win 10 are limited to security fixes only, "Features" are excluded and the ESR period has now been extended till 10.2027. Maybe I'll change my mind then, but not now.

 

Quest link for me, my image is very poor compare to VD That I have…….

I true that I don’t lose to much time to setting, with VD I’m happy, but, can you share your setting in Quest Link?

I only know ritual desktop and with latest beta version with usb3.0 is amazing for me

 

Running max resolution (5408x2912), 80hz, 500mbps, H264, FOV Tangent 0.95/0.65, Link sharpening normal.

These settings produce much clearer visuals with better colour balance than anything I can manage out of VD.

This worked flawlessly for a couple of years but unfortunately, Meta updates since V83 have forced me to lower bitrate to about 250-300 to avoid stutters.

Even at 250, it's better than VD in clarity, sharpness and colour.

I'm on a G2 and using Win 11 version 23H2 - the last one to feature Windows Mixed reality - which you can force to persist, with only security updates from MS.
There is a modded version of OpenXR Toolkit by Ohne Speed which allows for cropping of the image and is an actual game changer.

. As I'm on an AMD GPU, I can't use the Oasis driver, but this version of the toolkit really works well.

 

FYI - AMD GPUs are supported now: Oasis Driver for Windows Mixed Reality on Steam

 

Does AMS2 still require parallel reprojection for canted vr display?

 

I play all games without reproduction or upscaling.

 

I'd love to know what some of you Link users are doing for your quest 3 to be working better than with VD. I tried it again the other day just to see if it was any better and it's still micro stuttering EVERYWHERE even in just time trial. Am I missing something? Full Link cable speeds, latest updates of both Horizon Link and Quest 3...

 

I ordered a power plus data cable from INIU for VR over USB, not tried it yet.

I got fairly far through ordering one on the Kiwi site before I bailed after seeing the postage to my country. Anyway, they wrote to me, presumably automated, the next day saying they noticed I bailed mid-order and gave me a code for a 20 percent discount. If you've already decided to order the Kiwi one then doing the same might be a good way to get a 20 percent discount.

 

Hi, I'm pleased you are enjoying it. I noticed this thread appeared on my github insights.

The next version has some big improvements for AMS2, especially with VRS foveated rendering. It's still a long way off being ready, still a lot of work left to do but showing some very nice gpu gains.

 

Looking for some help if possible please. I’ve been using quest 3 with no issues for a few years but recently it’s an absolute nightmare

recently when I put my headset on it sometimes appears all pixelated, then when I thought I had it resolved my steering wheel now doesn’t work. I then tried to play not in vr and steering wheel works fine

When I plug my genuine link cable in my headset is charging so I know headset is receiving what it needs but when I do a “test connection” in meta link it says it cannot do it and to check my link is working. Every time I click on meta quest it’s asking me to pick betwee Link and air link.
Sorry for being probably still a bit unclear but I’m finding it difficult to express exactly my issue as I’m not very tech savvy

Here's a mod that renders a helmet instead of the fov crop black bars, brilliant.

 

Have a look at using Virtual Desktop instead of Quest link.

 

I’ve been playing AMS2 in VR (Quest 3) with Link cable (and OpenXR SteamVR-bypass with 2 DLL-files) for years and am totally happy with the quality and smoothness.

But now it seems that for the first time I need to switch to Steam Link or Virtual Desktop Beta.
Both support wired connection like I had in the past.

Why do I have to switch?
I experience massive problems in other modern VR games (after few seconds the edges in VR screen get blurry and the game freezes). I read that this is caused by the latest NVIDIA drivers (since August 2026?) and that a solution would be the switch to SteamLink or VD beta.

Anyone else knows this problem and the solution?

I want wired connection because Quest is being charged while gaming and my router is in other room so that WiFi is not that stable like wired.

Which solution would you suggest? Will I get rid of my problems and will AMS2 run flawlessly like in the past with no quality loss?
