Just an additional note, I installed PCars 2 yesterday, after my previous posts. Turned a few laps at Watkins Glen and Road America with Mark Donahue's '69 Z28. It was not terribly clear in VR, nor smooth.

So I did the same thing that I had done with AMS2, copied the PCars 1 OculusDX11 and OculusConfig files into the game's folder under My Documents. It had the same effect that it had on AMS2. It cleared up and smoothed out nicely.

Whatever is providing the clearer, smoother performance on Oculus Rift S with this trick, it's in those files from PCars 1. It helps both AMS2 and PCars 2.

you are a typical user, who just does something and is happy with the result. W/o wanting to know what it was. If there had just changed one entry, then your trail&error would have forced a crash.
Beleave me, its the sharpening and filter settings.
It was discussed here in in the pCARS forums. Long time ago.

Well, all I know is that whatever is in the PCars 1 config files, it makes the picture much clearer and much smoother. You referenced PCars 2 when discussing the sharpening and filter settings that were discussed long ago. But what I did FIXES PCars 2.

Perhaps I'm a bit of a pragmatist, but if it works, it works. I don't feel a need to sift through the files and find the specific entry responsible for the improvement. If you dig through the PCars 1 config files and compare the differences between those and the AMS2 and PCars 2 config files, maybe you can figure it out. I'd rather be doing other things. If my mentioning this helps anyone, great. But I don't feel compelled to make a career of figuring it out.

Does anyone know if there has been any research done on what the different track quality and car quality and other options means in terms of visuals and vr performance impact?

I haven't seen any guides. Experimentation is probably the best way to dial it in on your machine.

I'd offer some advice, but I recently retired my 1080 machine and replaced it with a new NZXT monster. I have everything set to maximum, plus I force the highest quality possible with the Oculus Debug Tool. It still looks great and runs fast and smooth. The new PC seems to handle anything well.

Things like shadows, mirrors, and reflections usually have a heavy impact. Texture quality typically relates to how much video memory your graphics card has onboard. Heavy detailed grass is usually an FPS-killer as well.

Do some tinkering and experimentation and you'll soon figure out what your PC does and does not like. I may be wrong, but AMS2 doesn't seem too hard to run at very high settings. Good luck! :)

This is the default pcars settings file. Compared with default AMS2 - most of the pcars defaults are lower which would account for improved perf. As for being 'clearer'; that can be pretty subjective.

I play in VR with Quest2 @ 72 Hz @ fluid 72 FPS (dry weather and daytime only of course ;)) all the time and have not much headroom in Oculus traytool (performance graph) left. If I watch a replay from trackside cam in VR, quite often the system can’t hold the 72 FPS and as soon as it drops under 72 FPS I don’t get a stuttering picture as I would have expected but instead only the cars seem to “lag” and “jump” with a bit of ghosting, whereas the movement of the virtual world from my head movement (when I look around) still feels smooth without any stutters.
Don’t know if I could describe it well enough but it looks similar to online opponents with bad ping. Why is that?
Is this normal and do you experience the same? And is there a way to get rid of this jumping/ghosting/stuttering(?) of the cars when watching replays from trackside cams? As I wrote, everything else and also the driving experience itself from cockpit view is fluid with 72 FPS…

Can we get menu bind functions in the control menu so I can bind the joysticks on my Moza to menu functions? Since it's not one of the official wheels in the menu you have to select custom and the menu controls don't work. Would be easy fix to just allow us to set menu movement in the controls

Most likely explanation is you've got a tracking issue with your headset. If it's got inside-out tracking like a G2, Quest, check for issues with light sources. I've seen a few instances of the monitor causing issues. Try with a towel or something over the monitor and see if it stops happening.

also make sure sunlight isn't affecting the tracking as sometimes there are clouds!

    What is you Helmet ?

I have a G2 and don't have this issue... As Said by others this kind of headset require Light in the Room compare to others.
If you have tracking station ensure they are not obstructed by your wheel or something else

I am needing to recenter my view after a lap all of a sudden too. This has never been an issue before the latest patch. I am using a Reverb G2, plenty of light in my room.
