    A new release candidate build of Automobilista 2 is now available as a Steam beta branch for those interested in testing the new update before its official release in the coming days.

    The new update is largely focused on bug fixing, maintaining older content & extending recent physics developments to a wider range of cars - GTE, GT3, GT4, GT1, Porsche Cup, Stock Car 2019, Super V8, DPi & P1 class now join the F-Ultimates & Stock Cars from 2020 onwards in the list of series to receive the latest extensive tire carcass & driveline developments. These are significant improvements, the nature of which we will expand further on in our upcoming May Development Update.

    AMS2 users have the two following beta branches available:

    ReleaseCandidate: This is the latest release candidate, currently V1.3.6.1 build 1996. To access this build, right-click Automobilista 2 on your Steam Library, go into Properties -> Beta tab, and select the “ReleaseCandidate” branch for the dropdown menu. This branch will be disabled after the official public release and return you to the default AMS2 branch, if you then want to opt in for the beta in a next update you just need to repeat this process.

    PreviousBuild: This option allows users to revert back to the previous V1.3.5.2 in case they encounter any issues with a new update, or want to compare changes if they are interested in doing so. To access it, right-click Automobilista 2 on your Steam Library, go into Properties -> Beta tab, and select “PreviousBuild” branch from the dropdown menu. To revert to the current build, just repeat the process and select “None” from the dropdown menu.

    Does this need editing? It's unclear what it means.
    • F-Ultimate (both gens):
    • Revised setups for default setups (setup reset recommendeD)
    What a tantalising update. The amount of updates, improvements and innovations is very impressive. The Super V8s are calling to me...

    There is no mention of Group A and Group C regarding tire carcass & tread adjutments. Is that on the list later on, or will those stay as they are?

    Further tire carcass & tread adjustments for all vehicles are to be expected - I think this is the amount Reiza was able to tune and test within this month. :)

    I have some feedback. The filter for car classes is quite clunky and requires a lot of clicks to get to the class you want. Can we have a larger menu for this, similiar to how you select multiple classes when you create a lobby?

    edit: How long are short/medium/long/extremely long races?

    Gt3 for example, less grip overall, need to take care of the tires as they overheat more easily and reduced bouncing.

    Have you tried them? I suggest you start with the Porsche Cups. You'll see for yourself.

    And I should mention the tire changes affect positively ffb as well. Smoother and more detailed.

    Super V8 at Old Kyalami

    This has always been one of my favourite combos in AMS1 and 2 but I've only been able to enjoy it intermittently in AMS2. The main problem IMHO was a lack of precision in the FFB, and physics that were hard to understand, particularly in Turn One, where the wheel felt dead and the car slid laterally far too much no matter what setup I tried.

    In the Release Candidate:
    • Vastly improved handling through Turn One;
    • Better FFB through the chicane - unless it's my imagination, the stiffer tyre carcasses are keeping the car in check;
    • The final corner is not so much of a lottery - the feeling of FFB tyre scrub is present where before it wasn't. The back end is much more controllable but still demands careful driving.
    • Default gearing now accommodates Kyalami's long straight without adjustment.
    • The cockpit camera view/seating position is much better. It always felt off for some reason, but now it appears more proportional and realistic.
    However:
    • The car "hunts" slightly at high speed on the straight. This might simply need an adjustment of the toes.
    • One or two jerks at high speed might be the result of better communication from the stiff tyres, so I may lower the FFB and FX slightly - this worked for the SCB 2022.
    • The steering lock is very sharp. My wheel profiler is set to 900 degrees and allows the game to make adjustments, but I have to set the steering lock to 14 degrees, the lowest value, or the V8 moves far too much. I would ask @Domagoj Lovric to take a look and see if he can squeeze another degree or two of slack into the steering lock setting. :)
    I hope my feedback helps. Please note that my DFGT is the least sensitive proprietary FFB wheel around, so I may have come to the wrong conclusion in places. :whistle: The most important thing is that the car has improved and is enjoyable to drive. It made me chuckle around classic Kyalami. :cool:

    Carcass is stiffer now than it was. Cars will feel much more direct and responsive. Suspensions tuning will need significantly different stiffness values. Hence the requirement for reset to default on those cars.

    The lateral grip feel has also changed a lot with the new tire changes, especially when it comes to how tires "reclaim grip" when you're pushing hard and driving over the limit. With the new tire changes, the sidewalls feel stiffer.

    Understeer from overturning the front wheels is also more pronounced.

    It's "wandering". The front toe of the SuperV8 is quite high combined with the aggressive front steering geometry.

    The car has a solid rear axle. Any rear wheels differentiation only happens by "torsional flex" of the axle so turn-in has to be "forced" into it by some trickery.

    If you find steering too sensitive, reducing steering lock and removing front negative toe isn't a bad idea but it can be harder to throw it into some corners at Adelaide for example, which was one of the things to pay attention to for the default setup, which aims to work on Adelaide but also Bathurst and most tracks in the game. A bit of a compromise needed to be made.
