Noticed that also with ACC. In AMS2 I always get 10 seconds faster times at Nürburgring by driving the same line compared to ACC.The cars model does not matter. At the same time the cars in AMS2 always feel like they have worse controllability, but thats just an illusion. Despite the "feel" that you're overdriving it, you simply don't do it. Jigsawing the wheel, drifting out, sliding but nothing of that comes with any real risk.

 

I agree that a lot of people believe they are overdriving in AMS2 based on previous experiences in other sims and the sound of screeching tires but they are not.
in iracing you can run 2-4s faster the Nurburgring GP layout compared to AMS2 but the feeling is that of ice because the balance of the car feels precarious and because you are forced to brake with BB all pushed to the back to have front wheels grip which makes the car's handling dynamic very sketchy as soon as you are outbraking yourself just a tiny bit

 

That reminds me of Microsoft and the developer behind CART Precision Racing making a really big deal about the actual CART drivers who tested the software in 1997; the drivers matched their real-world laptimes with astonishing accuracy. A sim’s ability to generate laptimes identical to reality reveals nothing about what is going on under the hood, so to speak.

 

There's so many outside factors at play that matching exact laptimes is basically meaningless. Even in actual professional sims used by race teams, some details about track conditions, abrasiveness, rubbering, etc. make it extremely difficult to exactly predict reality.

Even with actual race series drivers comments, you'll get a variety of opinions on how realistic a sim is. The 2020 iRacing COVID series comments were a good example.

 

No it doesn't, but if you have accurate tracks, and your car is miles off the real laptimes, then at least reveals that you couldn't even get right the basics of the car you are atempting to simulate.

 

The massive improvement in computational modeling since the GPL days is a double-edged sword. A more advanced model has the potential to better simulate reality, but also progressively more ways to get knocked out of tune.

 

I did an hour-long race at both Spa and Daytona Road Course with 60 cars, and the racing felt identical aside from the obvious pit issues with not being able to see your pit box very well. No performance issues from what I noticed, and the process of setting it up takes less than one minute, maybe two if it's your first time doing it. There may be issues that crop up, but if I'm doing multi-class, I'm never going back to the 32 grid.

 

What, are you saying this wasn't the pinnacle of sim realism?

 

Have you tried Formula Inter with a low wing value? It's just amazing, try it! It seems that some kind of updated tire model is used in this baby, the car reacts very sensitively and at the same time is ready to punish for mistakes. Or you will barely go, but you will be stable on the wing 8

Your time in AMS2 compared to your time in AMS2 should be exactly the same in my opinion.

 

I've been testing some more Project Cars 2 again recently and had some crashes with AI drivers, as in i crashed into them and was surprised how easy it is to actually push them off, how realistically they get crashed out !

I wonder why the AI on AMS2 in comparison is so on rails, and hope that will be one of the improvements to have them react more naturally to being hit by the player and also each other, because it is no fun to crash into another driver and basically see no reaction at all, instead have them act as a driving blockade which is the current situation.

I know it's boring, but the 2023 Stockcar championship started here in Brazil, and I see the real race and when I go to AMS2... sad car rolls more than carnival, I have to read here that it's good what a problem and force feedback here hope never dies...Video 1 expectation, video 2 reality. Detail, modeling of the Cruze car is strange...

Neither do I. I don't understand what the point of this criticism is, the sim looks very faithful to the real thing.
