Hi, guys. Just posting some info of the testing I've done in VR with my old and new CPU:

Scenarios (all other specs are pretty much the same as in my signature, incl. 64GB RAM in both cases):
    Old: 5950x
New1: 7950x3D (PC chooses, what cores to use, unfortunately it seems to use the high frequency cores)
New2: 7950x3D (the cores without extra cache disabled. Basically this functions as a 7800x3D)

    All settings max.
    Steam VR resolution: 150%

1st lap of Long Beach with a full grid of GTE cars at midnight, worst case frame times*:
Old: GPU frame times: 16, CPU frame times: 12
    New1: GPU: 13, CPU: 9.6
    New2: GPU: 13, CPU: 7.6

1st lap of Long Beach with a full grid of GTE cars at midnight with thunderstorm, worst case frame times*:
Old: GPU frame times: 22, CPU: 14
    New1: GPU: 20, CPU: 11.5
    New2: GPU: 16, CPU: 9

Overall during daytime races with AI scenario New1 vs Old has resulted in much less stutters and dropped frames, with just a few spikes up now and again in CPU frame times. With New2 the spikes up now and again in CPU frame times are almost completely gone. Everything is buttery smooth. This is a significant noticeable improvement. I totally recommend the 7800x3D CPU or the 5800x3D.

    * I have just been eyeballing these numbers from fpsVR on the fly (an application bought from Steam). Frame time 11 ms will give you 90 fps in VR. Anything over that and the fps drops significantly and looks really bad.

that's an interesting topic and would love to know as well.

Can it be that with the way ASW works when its ON like in your case, that Performance reporting is actually not accurate anymore but only is when ASW is actually OFF?
Just guessing from a very VR and QUEST2 noobie here

Talking about QUEST2 and AMS2, to get the best experience possible in this Game until REIZA devs allow full use of Opencomposite

Please VR Experts correct the points where needed

    1. Opencomposite launcher and set to Open XR as applicable for other SIM upload_2023-6-10_13-5-19.png
    2. Set both Exe in W7 compatibility mode upload_2023-6-10_13-4-55.png
    3. Launch Oculus software and set runtime as following upload_2023-6-10_13-5-53.png
    4. Launch Oculus Debug tool and set as per your preference and HW potential upload_2023-6-10_13-6-24.png
    5. Launch OpenVR Toolkit to take advantage of features like FOV rendering and FSR upload_2023-6-10_13-7-7.png
    6. Launch from Stem in Oculus mode
    upload_2023-6-10_13-21-13.png
voila again, they might sound like noobie confirmation needs so advice appreciated

cool I am curious to hear about your experience indeed:cool:
I am really a noobie with VR and all the tweakings surrounding PCVR Games optimization so it might not be fully correct what I do but hey:D you need to start from somewhere:p
    good luck:)

I tried lot of combinations but exactly yours nope. I couldnt get into work open composite in substitution with oculus runtime so the whole process make it interesting. It works for you?

Im charging the quests 2 right now. XD

Thats where the Experts should jump in to confirm
My experience in AMS2 is quite good with this method but i have also a pretty good hardware with 5800x3d and 6800xt AMD gear

I uderstand that opencomposite can not use the full potential of openxr in the Game as the devs have not unlocked the possibility in AMS2 code which is a pity

    Good luck!

Anyone know if water spray clipping in to the car in VR will ever be fixed? It's very immersion breaking.

Which cars are those ? I drove a few in the rain and didn't experience it clip into the car itself. I recommend you write all of them into here:

Sparks look a little weird in VR too. Like its only rendering in one eye or something.

Any plans on having a usable replay system in VR? As of now, on some tracks the camera doenst move with the car when using trackside view. I have to turn my head all the way in the direction of the car to have it change the camera. On some tracks it doesnt even do that. I have to press a keyboart shortcut to change the track camera. When in pancake mode, it follows the car automatically and changes to the next camera automatically.

Sparks looks very bizarre in VR. I now avoid low light situations in low-slung vehicles because its so bad. ls there no way to turn this off in a settings file somewhere?

This has been requested many times but there was never a official reply from Reiza about it.. It would be so great if we can finally disable these bugged sparks in VR so that we can finally use the Formula cars properly.

With the new patch the Formula cars drive awesome, but sadly enough many of them are not enjoyable because of this stupid "metal spark bug" :(

Especially the Formula classics on a bumpy road, that's not even fun at daytime, the sparks are indeed that bizarre/bad.

I think that Reiza's developers don't own a VR hmd. Otherwise they understood all these issues.. disabling or removing them(until they get them fixed) cannot be that difficult...

Honestly, i don't think any dev or member of the Reiza staff have the slightest interest in VR issues. I've never even managed to get a response to anything VR related in the whole of AMS2's release cycle.

    Agreed about VR replay
The most annoying thing in ams2 imo

shame as ams2 is such a nice looking sim

Exactly. This new physics update prompted me to get back into the formulas. They do drive nice! But the sparks spoil the experience enough that I don't race them and resort to solo hot laps. I sincerely hope the devs pay more attention to the VR issues. AMS2 is such a good starting point for a VR race sim, just needs refinement.

Steam seems to have had an update, and now OpenXR is not working for me. Anyone else seen this?

    Hi all.
I noticed that at night, storm condition, the reflection of rear lights over the track from cars ahead is rendered only up to a certain distance, and then disappears.
It is quite distracting for me especially when these reflections suddenly pop-up.
I tried all gfx settings to ultra and I tried to up/down particles but it does not change.
It seems to me a LOD setting but I am not able to increase it.
Do you have any suggestion, or maybe I am missing something big?

Quote from Jabbah at the OC Discord. Try running through this procedure.

    1. Every time SteamVR gets updated (with OpenComposite using system wide install) all games revert to using SteamVR again instead of OpenComposite. Loading OC and switching back and forth between SteamVR and OC doesn't help. What I have to do is close down SteamVR and Steam, making sure it isn't still running in the tray. Then run OpenComposite, switch to SteamVR and back to OpenComposite, then restart Steam. Steam will then show an error about OpenComposite and app type 6 not being supported. Click ok on that. Steam will close. Restart Steam again and all is now ok.
    2. Just posting this as happened to me again this morning. Probably happens more often as I'm on the beta versions of SteamVR.

Would be interesting to know how many of the Reiza devs use VR and if they like VR or not. It might sound strange but I have never played AMS2 without VR. It’s the best VR racing sim on the market IMHO despite the few annoying VR problems (sparks, headlights-performance, some shimmering white lines, HUD-setup…).
I mean if they had tried it once how should they’ve been able to go back to pancake? :D
