Oh God that's horrendous. Is it a general thing with the R5? I was about to get it but this makes me think whether the CSL dd or even cammus C5 would be better choices, since I mostly play Ams2

I have a R9 and I do not have any oscillations at all. No matter if I use Default, Default+ or (like currently) a custom FFB profile. I once had those temporarily in F124 but never in AMS2 or any other sim.

My current settings in PitHouse are almost the same like in this post below, but even if I use different values for friction etc. I get no oscillations.

Maybe it's something specific to the R5?

That’s quite amazing how different the bases must be form the same manufacturer. I have an R16 and do not experiment any oscillations whatsoever - whether I run a custom ffb file or default/default+. And I haven’t had to do much tinkering in pit house, it’s only adjusted to give the weight I prefer, I save 5 differing files with various road sensitive and in ams2, usually run that at 10 with the in game Vx down at approx. 10.

A faulty unit can justify it perfectly, no need to assume all R5 have a problem. The R5 should the the least vulnerable of the range to that behavior.
Natural Inertia makes the wheel have mass (with the wheelbase turned on it offers... inertia to the wheel ). Even at 250% (it's just a number, don't get fouled by it) the ffb is agile, with great details.

Likewise - my R9 is fine, hands off at 280kmh down bumpy straights.

I do use a little friction in pithouse and hands-off protection but the wheel is still very lively, never out of control.

I have an R5 and it works great. I would try re-installing Pit House or rolling back firmware. Restart your PC and see if you can get it working. I’ve been in touch with Moza’s support for a different issue and they were responsive and helped resolve any issues.maybe contact them too.

I have a R5 and I don’t recognize it at all, not all r5 has that problem so it seems

That's what I said (could be just a faulty unit, not a R5 general problem).
I think I didn't explain myself correctly or you read it too fast  (please, give it a like, I need that social incentive :D:D:D)

    A Sportscar Fan's Automobilista 2 IMSA Wishlist
    By Angus Martin for Overtake.gg

    upload_2024-11-25_5-55-34.png

"But it is not just content that Automobilista 2 needs to become my go-to IMSA title. Indeed, there are several functionalities that a top endurance simulator needs - especially for offline racing.

    Traffic-dodging AI
    (...)
Thankfully however, Automobilista 2 version 1.6 promises significantly more racy and realistic AI.

But it is not just the race craft that I need improvement on to feel at peace. Endurance racing is all about chucking a collection of different car classes on-track at the same time meaning an ability to bypass traffic effectively is crucial. Right now, AMS2 does not succeed in that point. So alongside greater racecraft, smarter and more aware AI is required, especially of the road ahead. If the AI can plan its route through upcoming cars as a human would, or even as the AI does in Le Mans Ultimate, I would be very happy.

    Strategic decisions
Planning ahead of oneself is not just limited to the act of passing slower traffic. Indeed, longer races with limited tyre sets, fuel stints verging on race completion and reliability all playing their part require a lot of forethought.
    (...)
If what is set to become the official IMSA simulator can incorporate both fuel saving strategies and working tyre allocation factoring warm-up and wear, us endurance racing fans are set to have a field day. (...)

    Offline Teammates
A key art to sportscar racing strategy is the use of multiple drivers for a single car. (...) As such, AI teammates with their own characteristics in AMS2 would be a fantastic idea. (...) the more complex, and more satisfying solution would be to allow players to hand their car over to an AI teammate during a pitstop, and said AI teammate to have their own strenghts, weaknesses and driving styles. Both adding to the immersion and allowing you to take a break to think about your strategy, this is something I want in any title focusing on long-distance racing. AMS2 has this capability in offline races already, albeit in a very basic way. (...)

    Race Stoppages
If there is anything Automobilista 2 already does well, it is implementing Safety Car periods into its races. (...) As we all know, IMSA is king of the safety car - or Full Course Yellow - in sportscar circles and so this is a key point the title must not forget. Moreover, as an official IMSA game, AMS2 could even simulate the real life rules in which you spend 15-25 minutes at a dawdle behind the pace car whilst the other class gets to pit. And then you pit. And then the pass around happens."

Hey, just in case I've just stumbled upon this thing on the Moza discord, I've tried it and it fixes those oscilations that some cars had stationary, I remember complaining about this with the Fjunior a while back. Try this and let me know if it helps!

go to "base ffb curve" and set the first dot in X:5% , Y:3%. Before CSP 0.2.3 was a common problem in Assetto Corsa too."

I would be more than happy for them to postpone it for six months if we had driver swaps. The level of the game would be vastly improved....however Im not asking for them to do it now though...I was hoping for some intelligent responses.... sadly that too is a big ask!

The thing with ams2 is that 1.6 is not the end of the road. The team has a large list of enhancements, new features to implement, and bugs to squash. What comes to fruition in 1.7, 1.8, 1.9 etc. Is left to be seen but just because something isn't in 1.6 doesn't mean Reiza does not have plans for it or that it won't come to the game in due time. Even for this cycle there were some really neat things they talked about wanting to implement which ultimately didn't make the cut. I'm hopeful that 1.6 is largely stabilizes the physics and future releases can focus on some long standing requests like tire rules, wave arounds under caution, limited tire sets, various qualifying formats, etc. If they tried to do all of this in 1.6 it would never release so there comes a time when you put what is done out into the world and start working on the next release.

Please wait for the hype train to come to a complete stop before attempting to board another train, both for your safety and the safety of the other passengers. (oh, wait, wrong thread!)

I was not aware the hype train still had brakes. If it does they are likely very cold at this point, and like brakes with the 1.6 thermodynamics revision have significantly reduced stopping power.

This change to the linear curve on Moza will give you a dead zone and an ugly notch in the middle. These are solutions with other side effects and disadvantages. But to each their own;)

Everything has a side effect, the question is if I can feel it, been back and forth and to be honest with the R12 I don't feel it, may be because of the static friction of the wheel or the damper settings.

Yes, you are absolutely right. I feel this change extremely with my R21 and it is not an option for me. Of course I don't have any problems with the vibrations either. As I said, everyone as they like it

Thanks for all the tips and info for the R5 all. I hadn't really considered it being a faulty unit as the issue only happens in AMS2, in LMU it's so minimal that I wouldn't really consider it a problem.

Will do a reset and uninstall the software to see if it helps.

    Question for the Formula Heads:
Is the clearing of grained tyres actually modelled in ams 2 ;)
