I.e. boost a couple dB around 9-12K, add a little saturation (this can be done on just the higher frequencies with a multiband saturator like fabfilter's Saturn) to sell just how LOUD it is inside the cockpit*, even with a helmet on. Then a second mild eq to cut any particularly harsh frequencies introduced with the saturation, and finally a compression pass to help smooth it all out.

*When we experience loud sounds, our bodies have a biological reflex to prevent hearing damage that, without going into unnecessary detail, causes loud sounds to become slightly distorted and compressed before they're received by the brain.

When I have some time I can provide examples of how these changes might sound compared to how it is currently.

I have mentioned in another post a while ago and I 100% agree with the high end boost, to me it's not even that the cockpit sounds bad, but the EQing is not balanced and definitely favours low and medium end over high, which makes the little details sound much more muffled. A few more audio mixes and EQ presets (kinda like how Battlefield has been doing it for a few decades) would solve most of the audio weaknesses with the game, because it is overall pretty good, but the lack of high end makes it sound like there isn't enough detail, when they're there for sure. And, since it's all personal, a few more options wouldn't hurt anyways.

If anyone here has played the Battlefield series before, we could definitely use a "War Tapes" preset on Automobilista 2 (Example is from Battlefield 6, but it's been there since Bad Company 2)

A dedicated tick box in the Sound menu for a muffled helmet audio (without camera overlay) would be a fantastic addition. I miss this when I switch from iRacing to AMS2 (the later being my preferred option)

Oh, also can we expect more cars from the Milano manufacturer, some newer models for GT3 pretty please?

I honestly think they have a bunch ready but they are still working on and they will be release next year with the new IMSA and WEC season.

Now inside the car, the engine is still creating these 1000 pulses a second but why can't we hear it?

So this is because when we strap ourselves into the car we're no longer hearing that clean 1000hz from the exhaust. That's being projected backwards, away from us. The engine is quite rigidly affixed to the chassis of a race car, using hard engine mounts. This means inside the car we're hearing and feeling a lot more of the actual mechanical noise of the engine, those less powerful high frequencies are more easily dampened and lost in the high mass and larger size of the combined engine and chassis. What we hear and feel inside the car is the resonance of the chassis vibrating sympathetically with the engine, this is comprised more of more powerful lower frequencies that aren't as easily dampened and lost.
What this basically means is we hear a lower pitched sound inside the car.

This is the same for most cars, but in cars with lower fundamental pitch it's less noticeable because the the exhaust note and the frequency at which the chassis resonates are closer in pitch.

The issue is it seems they have gone too far in muting the sound in the cockpit. Compare the onboard audio from this E46 M3 GTR to the one in the stream yesterday. The in-game sounds have no "bite".

Agreed.
Though a distinction I feel is important to make, I don't think it's that they've purposefully dulled the sounds in the cockpit, more just that they haven't brought out the rawness in the interior recordings they've already got.

It sounds to me like they're using pretty raw interior recordings with minimal processing, so you're basically just getting what the microphone 'heard' which is fine, but with some mixing it could give it a much more visceral feel.

(I'm an audio engineer by trade, stuff like this is my bread and butter )

Edit: "Adding rawness to raw recordings" sounds like a silly thing to say, but if you know, you know.

I’m curious to see these revised POV on cockpit, I use helmet view, but I’m not sure exactly if this means that the POV on this view might change or not, or if it’s only on “regular” cockpit view; maybe someone could enlighten me about the meaning of this revision? Sometimes, depending on the car, is really hard to adjust helmet view due to the neck of the driver interfering on the view, forcing me to change the POV to prevent this from happening.

Basically means that POV is set to the eye position of the 3D driver and deviations are corrected there - that might in some cases come with some extra corrections though. Also doesn't mean that each single car POV is suddenly to everyones liking but that's what seat config is for.

Helmet and Cockpit have the same POV.

Thanks for the lightning quick reply Crimson, it’s appreciated! That’s sounds great then, looking forward trying the LMDh cars, where it was really hard to find a comfortable POV, notably on the Alpine and Lambo.

FYI the car in the video is not the car included in the DLC, as it doesn't have the P60B40 special engine, it's got the eariler, less powerful S62 engine.
