All this talk about audio really does disappoint me about how modern
cars sound in comparison to the 2000-2010 era. Can't wait for the update :)

Producing effective / convincing in-car audio is not simple, obviously. Even in the above video example, it appears the side windows are open and the exhaust exits just below the door. I'm sure that provides a lot more of the exhaust noise into the cabin.

The GTR in game is based on the Spa 24 and Nurburgring variant, not the one from IMSA

I haven't listened to the raw recordings, but almost all the cars in AMS2 sound very "synthetic" to me. I can't put my finger on what is causing it, but they almost sounds like one base recording thats been synthesized to sound like a bunch of different engine configurations.

I think Reiza is knowing what the should do. I mean, we get a really huge and impressive update. Why making some spectations, with that I mean that Youtube case. I don´t want to pull it up again but just. Relax and wait. Making a game is not the easiest what you can do. So much expactioation, so much wishes.
I also have a wish and don´t think the car will get into the game. If you know something else about the Ford GT let me know :D

So far what we got, it´s impressive and polished. Other sims are laggy or got a bad view in VR (yes I have not the best PC) but AMS2 is running fluently and looks really awesome :D

What I really wish is, that AMS2 get his attention what it deserves. It makes a huge progress. Hopefully the Multiplayer will get a wrap up and then more online races outside :)

Maybe we can beat the other sims

Ah, okay. That does sound closer then. The viper is still way off though. It sounds very aggressive from the cockpit in real life.

Sure, it's not easy, but it is doable. The RSS and VRC mods for AC have absolutely nailed it. Maybe it's just a limitation of the audio engine in AMS2?

Yes, great memories indeed! I remember doing a full career in winter months and how I dreaded to write the huge passcode to save the game every time. But it was great to go from Minarae:)D) to Firenze to try to beat a certain Brazilian in the mighty Madonna!:D

Someone care to explain how the Milano 36GT doesn't violate any rules? Is it the fact that it's been made by Reiza from scratch? Because if so I don't see what's stopping them from doing the same for other models

So the way engine audio works in pretty much every game is that there are a series of base recordings per car, these are usually recordings from the actual car, or a car that sounds similar.
(Most, if not all cars in AMS2 have unique recordings per vehicle.)

These will be fairly short, chopped recordings of the car and engine under different amounts of load, acceleration, deceleration, shifting up shifting down, from inside, from outside etc. etc.

Then those different sounds picked and played by the audio engine (AMS2 uses FMOD as its audio engine) dependent on what is happening in the sim at any moment. These sounds are often looped, pitch shifted, morphed between, and have various other clever things done in the background to give the illusion of hearing a continuous engine note.
Combined with all the other sounds like road noise, tyre sounds, etc. It gives a convincing illusion.

So they aren't technically synthesized, but they are faked insofar as they'll be pitched up and down, and affected in real time. There's realistically no way of getting around this until we have computers powerful enough to run fluid simulations in the background to
accurately procedurally generate the noise made by any engine, like the app that guy on YouTube is developing.

[Edit: Sorry for all the long posts about audio... We've hit my **special interest** and I just like talking about it ]

[Edit 2: I am not affiliated with Reiza, they could do things entirely differently internally, I'm not to know. But this is just how it's usually done.]

What rules/laws would it violate? Games have done this all over the place. Euro Truck Sim did it before they sealed all the deals with the manufacturers(decently faithful models with made-up names).
Ams1 did it(for lack of a Porsche licence for one).
I'd like the modern Indycars to be modelled a little truer to real life but I guess that's the legal tightrope we're walking here.
Brands can take it to court if they like...
What case would they make though, in this instance?

Thanks for the explanation! I’ve messed with sound modding a bit in NR2003, so this seems similar.

I think “digitized” might be a better description. Almost like a low bit rate recording. They just don’t sound natural like the high-end mods in AC.

that app is extremely cool - I think I am in good company when I say I also hope that it could be used in games.
