    I'm not sure how a year can be copyrighted. Words and images can be registered as trademarks, designed can be patented, and if anything copyright to the cars would belong to the respective teams. If you implement/copy the FIA reference design then maybe that's an issue?

    There are plenty of people (RSS, URD, VRC, ...) selling car models that are directly based on real-life vehicles but which use a different name so they don't get sued.

    I did also suggest an alternative approach to identifying an era using names based on historical events...

    I'm not talking about whether people are making up issues. I'm asking about why this is a copyright issue.

    Not everyone has access to that information.

    Reiza had previous legal trouble with Liberty Media/FOM over F1 skins in AMS1 being too close to the real ones, so it is possible there is an existing legal settlement preventing them from putting the years in or even commenting on the issue. Not much point in banging on about it.

    I've never understood why mod teams selling their various Darsches and Bayrons don't get sued either, it's probably because they're too small potatoes and therefore "judgment proof".

    Possibly.

    It's because the names are trademarked and need to be protected. If you draw a car from a photo, who owns the copyright to the drawing? If you 3D model a car... ?

    In terms of reverse engineering, using secret manufacturer data directly without permission would cause an issue, whereas using publicly-available measurements would be fine.

    However,

    I asked a question but I'm not sure why that's "banging on about it". But whatever, discussion over I guess.

    I guess because there is no money to be had by Liberty if they sue small modders... It's not worth the effort. A developer is a different thing

    It's banging on because the developer has been quoted saying they think it is too risky and consequently not worth it. Not hard to understand, accept and move on.
    Yet you keep replying that you don't believe it is risky. You may disagree, but they are the ones who determine if the juice is worth the squeeze. Case closed, find another topic to discuss.

    Era 1 Prewar GP
    Era 2 60's
    Era 3 70's
    Era 4 80's
    Era 5 90's
    Era 6 2000's

    How about replace Arabic numbers with Roman numbers?
    50s = Formula L
    60s = Formula LX
    70s = Formula LXX
    80s = Formula LXXX
    90s = Formula XC
    2000s = Formula MM

    80s: Yep still faster
    90s: Faster
    2000s: Faster still
    2010s: You guessed it, faster

    The evolution of safety in racing...

    Era 1 "You crash into the crowd and die"
    Era 2 60's "You hit a tree and die"
    Era 3 70's "You hit a track worker and die"
    Era 4 80's "You hit the wall, burst into flames and die"
    Era 5 90's "You're injected out of the car and die"
    Era 6 2000's "You probably won't die, although your bank account will."
    Era 7 FU "The thing you scream as you punch through the barrier burst into flames and di... wait he lived?"

    The McLaren MP4 1C did not have this side openings as in your screenshot and in the beta, which is just a fantasy chassis.
    On this part of the car, the sponsor logo (Marlboro) was placed.

    Are you referring to the black stripes? Those are part of the livery as a non-tobacco sponsor "Mission Milborow"

    partly right.
    At Silverstone GP 1983 they had to replace the Marlboro logo as tabacco advertisement was permitted.
    After that race the logo was used again

    So, I am sorry, my mistake. To me it looked like openings on the side.
