Maybe we should not call it the "McLaren licensing situation", to avoid creating negative perceptions of McLaren. It seems that McLaren itself would be very willing to grant the license, but agreements with the Formula One Group prevent this from happening. It is not McLaren's fault; it just happens to arise in the context of McLaren.

THIS with a big THIS .

Mclaren seems to be ok with Reiza to provide their F1 , but the FOM seem to be upset about this . The FOM is the FOW , not Mclaren.

I don't care if cars are "generic" and drive like real cars. Textures are not locked. More money for game developers and less for companies, teams and leagues that restrict fans and customers to enjoy some game. This crap happens in all simulators, cars, aircraft, trains...

Now that's just great. As if F1 wasn't sh**** enough as it is, now they want to screw everybody else's fun.

Question: if that's correct, then what happens with iRacing and AC Evo? They both have official Mercedes and Ferrari F1 cars. I'd like to know if those games are facing the same problem.

Stupid question: this affects "only" the McLaren F1 cars? What about GT3, GT4, GT1 and road cars?

I've heard for games to include multiple teams' F1 cars, a special F1 license is required, would make sense why these games only release cars from one team. But for Reiza it is strange how McLaren only had this realisation after multiple of their F1 cars already ended up in AMS2 with other manufacturers (Brabham, Lotus, and now Renault)

Only F1, Can-am is safe

Reiza. We love and we trust you! Thanks for the transparency and the amazing work you always do. I think is unfair to you to bring us the Renaults for free. I think the majority of us would happily pay/help even if they come unlicensed. So reconsider it! :)

And my personal opinion on the license problem: I would keep the McLaren license because is the manufacturer with most historical cars IMO. And we can always have great generic cars. Look at the F hitechs, we have both championship winning cars without license and its obvious which team they represent. So you could do the same with the Renaults. I think the three new expected McLaren are too cool to lose them. And possible further Mclarens also. Or look at the F-Edge. We have three models and one of them is clearly one team and a second one quite close to another.

I think its possible to find a solution that satisfy most of the people :)

This is a bad situation all around but I’m still excited however it comes.
One of the big things for me is the tracks (Indy 2001 especially because it’s my home track)

So is Piquet and the Brabhams. Can't dismiss that the DNA runs deeper than Senna, given Brazil's rich history of F1 champs (still waiting for more love to be shown to Fittipaldi, Reiza)

So yeah, this decision is like forcing a parent to give up one of his children. Very difficult position that Renato finds himself in and I do feel his pain due to his love and passion for his work. Here hoping that he makes the best possible decision under limited options. But as I stated earlier: few of us would be dissatisfied if you were to drop McLaren in favour of a Milano style of look-alike. Bypassing copyright isn't a biggie as long as minor differences are added to the model and paint scheme. If this will save the company money and in turn it will help keep the doors open, I say go for it. The generic cars look great as they are. And that's not even counting on the work the community does on the side. With non licensed vehicles you are also free to add damage as you please without manufacturer restrictions (a total immersion breaking thing in most racing games)

I even wondered if they could solve the problem if Reiza adopted the Fortnite method, and always sold the DLCs on a temporary basis, possibly returning in the future or not, but I think that wouldn't be viable in the context of AMS2.

It hurts, but if Reiza doesn't plan to license many other F1 cars from older manufacturers, it's better to keep the McLaren license and further strengthen the partnership.

Now, if we had cars from Ligier, Tyrrell, Benetton, Matra, BrawnGP, then my opinion would be different.

Humbly, for my part, I will continue to support Reiza and AMS2, whatever decision they make, because this is a difficult situation and that is when support is needed most; they are already doing more than enough on their part.

I've lurked in these forums since last year, but this little saga has prompted me to sign up and add my name to the list of people in here who want to support Reiza and AMS2. Some great ideas have been floated like a wallpaper pack. I'll probably buy the one or two remaining DLCs that I don't already own. I'll be here to play the new content day one, or as close as possible and I'm super excited for the future of this game we all love!

It seems like it's an issue now because Renault is a current F1 team, albeit branded as "Alpine". Brabham and lotus are historic teams.

I'm a bit confused. As of now, should the DLC be released in this couple of days (for free or paid), which cars would be part of the update? Only the three Renaults? Or also the 2001 and 2005 McLaren we saw in the various screenshots and videos? I mean are these 2 McLarens "safe" with the new deal only affecting the future content?

Shame that there may be Mclaren licensing problems, but the generic model here looks fantastic.

And i believe the generic versions will come in michelin and bridgestone shod versions (or generic equivalents). Is that right?

Video's looking good! Love watching the AI have a scrap with each other. Though is it just me or is the helmet in the Generic car a bit high up, certainly when compared with the Renault?
