I don't think it is too far fetched to imagine a future where AMS2 becomes the #1 single player racing sim. Racing, not driving, as AC/BNG is untouchable there and I don't see Shutoko or Akina ever being added to AMS2.

However...if AMS2 nails their custom AI I don't see any competition for historic motorsport recreation. With mods, this could lead to AMS2 sales going into the distant future while Reiza works on other projects (not anytime soon, maybe 2025+). For this to happen we have to have consistent, reliable AI behavior over full race distances.

To really grow we need to be able to launch AMS2 remotely and capture race results externally. That would provide huge motivation to continue developing tools/apps like Racing Life, racecraft.online, etc.

    Yes, they're great too!

However, I realize now I should have written the opposite:
What we really need is a way to launch the game externally and provide conditions (rules, session, weather, AI performance, etc.) to be used. With this plus race results we can have some truly incredible experiences created by the community.

I've used this, but not extensively. Perhaps might be of use.

I think there's a very good chance it'll go either way... A lot depends on how much more room can be created for the AI to simulate what is missing currently... If Reiza can create enough CPU power for the AI to work on a more advanced physics model than they are now, well the sky is the limit...

However there's always a limit to how much room is left over after computing the player physics and as new features get added on the player side (dirt, snow, better slow speed tyre physics and more features for the advanced damage model) taking up more computing power to model the players physics, there's obviously going to be less for the AI to use...

I'd love a great successor to TOCA touring car driver 3 and AMS2 has the chance to be that title, but there's a few too many red flags in the missing simulation features for the AI (such as fuel weights) and the fact that Reiza has turned to focussing on the MP side that have me pessimistic about the chances of major improvements to the AI from here... There's a very good chance that we've had the major improvements and only minor gains can be made from here...

To really succeed as a single player option though AMS2 will need a fully supported top line series with all the cars and tracks... Not just a couple of cars and tracks from a series... As single player is a niche within a niche and not having all the cars and tracks creates another level of niche to the title, a fantasy niche as you drive the DPi around the Monza 10k circuit or something else that doesn't fit reality...

If AC2 has improved AI, which is very possible if they simply update their engine without getting too complicated on the player's physics, then it'll be in line for the slot of best single player title with historic content... And it's not as if ACC was a complex animal either with it's simple tyre physics and a magical pressure number to aim for...

As long as modding is still a thing. Without modding AC would be long gone. Now it is still relevant - just needs an updated tyre and physics model

And updated AI because AC is arguably the worst AI i have ever seen in sim racing.

Trains + they have no idea how to pass each other or the player unless there is a two-wide car gap worth of space. Never mind if there is a crash ahead, they'll usually just stop dead in their tracks rather than go around it, useless and it is why i uninstalled AC ages ago.

AC hardly is a game anymore, more a platform for any kind of car (or other ;)) simulation. I don't think anyone playing it is even using original content at this point.

AC is and was always for me the Tourist-farten simulator. Pick a Tourist lobby. Pick a car. Hopefully a good one, because cars are limited. (Nice feature) Then sit there at the parking lot. Pondering about the setup. Maybe ask someone to chase, or to be chased. Have some fun. Leave the lobby. See if there's another car available. Do the same thing. So much fun to see others around the track as well. If only AMS 2 had tourist + limiting cars. Like 2 GT1 merc, 3 GT3, etc :D

Yeah and eventhough the movement of the MC and rider doesnt look 100% realistic it does look 100% exciting.

ByTheWay: What does look like a reasonable completed sim is the after lap menus and info.
Passing the finishing line a message says New Record + Uploaded time.
And then the user is without any goofy restart of the session/stint able to check his setup settings.
    Instantly.

I don’t agree mate - i race a lot on line in AC and the experience has been better than AMS2 I am sorry to say. BMW pro car at Sebring, mx cup and RSS F1 at every F1 circuit and 1960s F1 at historical courses without breaks and glitches and excellent graphics on screen or VR. Far superior performance. More participants and closers racing - no issue with AI because they don’t race online

its in testing for paying CSP (patreon) users since more than 2 years.
And w/o patching the tires it would not work with rain, becaus AC has no wets.
    you're telling old news ;)
BTW, wth has it to do with AMS2 development update.
A "new" rain system in AC that is integrated in Madness Engine since 8 years ?????
This fish is very old

    Please stay on topic
    This is a REIZA topic
Why not discuss AC in AC forums ?!?

You should check out racecraft.online - Sim Racing Ranked Matchmaking System for Automobilista 2. It hosts races with AI and human players, records stats and rankings.

P2P has nothing to do with being able to use or improve servers and networking lol.
In fact it is potentially better in terms of stability than the client-server model.

    Stop saying stupid things
