I don't play F1 23, but the career mode sounds really good. You can play it in co-op, and there's a whole progression system with car upgrades, contracts, facilities, objectives... You can start as an F2 driver and then move up to F1. There's also an asynchronous multiplayer leaderboard in the career mode and the possibility to drive as legends like Senna or Prost. I believe there's also a story mode with cutscenes. Sure, F1 23's handling may not be the best, but I can't think of any recent career mode that comes close to it. If we could get something similar in AMS2, with all the historic content, it would be great.

People in VR like me obviously cannot disable the wheel or hands. But i am also confused when people on monitors have two wheels and two pairs of hands and have the in-game seat in the back seat position.

Sometimes it let the steering wheel of the game beacause it can be beautiful with the LED and the screen. For exemple i love the 911 RSR interior

They look more like winter gloves than the typical synthetic gloves in modern racing formulas. Pay attention to the roughened and shiny surface on the back of the hand. It's weird

I agree that it can be distracting to have two wheels and hands but If you race Formula Ultimate, Formula USA or LMDH then you need them as there is no dash.

if you still have enough time to look at your gloves in a fast car then you're not going fast enough. :D

I think the gloves can be re-skinned if you change the livery, right?
If so perhaps it's possible to colour it like human skin? Then it will just look like your virtual driver has a really weird skin disease

As far as career modes, mixing elements from a variety of beloved racing games should be considered.
I loved being able to hire a teammate in Race Driver Grid, F1 2012's challenge scenario mode, even TOCA Race Driver's addition of having a rival driver you're competing against up the tiers of motorsport, kind of like Capeta (I watched it last month, wish it had more seasons).

That may be the case, but I'm assuming it's on the monitor since he hasn't written anything about it

I get the joke but it reminds me of a conversation that was here some months ago about how graphics do not matter and details matter even less ... and my response then was that why do we even have a skybox, trees, textures, lighting .. might as well just drive around with boxes on wheels like how games look in their prototype phases if details do not matter.

I am of course not directing this at you because i know you just said that as a joke, but it reminded me how numerous times some people here expressed how they do not care about details. Well, i am MANY others definitely do care about every smallest detail .

The day we stop caring is the day we will only be getting Ubisoft games - in other words NO details.

Nope, you’re not, I didn’t bother with it either.

But then, no career mode in racing games ever feels very good IMO - when there’s a pinnacle championship in game with two or three feeder series (eg F1, MotoGP) it makes sense but not for something as wide ranging as AMS2 or PC2 for me.

The closest I found to an enjoyable career mode was the Dirt Rally 2 one, but I just liked its simplicity - get to the end of a season and it would generate you a new championship with the events and stages being randomly generated and difficulty level getting adjusted, you choose what car and off you go…

They absolutely messed up that for the WRC game though, now all events, stages (and maybe weather conditions) are all pre-scripted and you can only focus on the modern classes.

I would tend to agree regards to the "pinnacle series and feeder series" - but I see this as valid for AMS2, it's just that you get 5 or 6! For example, it could handle a 80s sportscars to early 90s F1 path (think Michael Schumacher); it can handle a standard modern formula feeder path (squint hard and pretend the 3 on F3 is a 2, also it has karting), it can handle a similar thing for GT4 -> GT3 -> LMDh (think Pipo Derani). The nice thing is it can also handle post career trails (Nigel Mansell going to America? yep! Riccardo Patrese racing in the 97 Le Mans? Check! Mick Schumacher ending up in WEC after losing an F1 seat? Check!) The fact that these are ALL possible in a sim is just amazing to me and I'd love to see it taken advantage of. 4-5 different choices would be amazing. I must say I do also like the sponsorships and money side,
but won't mind if it's not in there.

60s is my favourite era by a long shot but personally I hope AMS2 stays from 1970 onwards - AC has such fantastic depth to its ‘60s mods but I’d prefer to see AMS2 add depth to its existing eras than make ‘60s versions of everything

Hardly a sim, but I did enjoy playing through the career in GRID Legends. I know it was absurd, but the story was fun.

I like games that force me to earn stuff. My problem with AMS2 is that I get overwhelmed with so many choices and it's hard for me to drill into a specific thing. Do I want to do the V10s era of F1? How about IMSA? WEC? Modern F1? CART? Or do a 2.4h endurance race at various circuits? It's so hard for me to choose I just end up hotlapping the Nordschleife, which is also fun!

I recommend my app MegaRandom !
It randomizes a race setup for you, with different car classes, weathers, race duration, the track, everything random.. Give it a look!

Most sims, especially on PC, lack a game structure to guide players. Gran Turismo 7 has some structure with things to earn, licenses to pass, and silly challenges, but it still lacks a proper career mode. Nowadays, I find that sims tend to focus on multiplayer and neglect the single-player experience. That's unfortunate, really miss the sense of progression and the rewards that come with it.
