Automobilista 2 May 2024 Development Update - The Road to V1.6 Pt1

So, there's performance improvements for v1.6 too?
I'm playing using Proton on Linux.. Azure Circuit and another track that I can't remember right now are dropping my FPS so much..

All other tracks are fine like it is when playing on Windows..
I don't know what Azure and this other track has that the others don't to drop my FPS like that..

 

Look past the edges of the track for clues.

 

Cars definitely feel more connected for me personally than they used to, whether it is enough for you, time will tell I guess.

It is still AMS 2 and retains a lot of its feel. However, it handed back the slip angle crown back to rFactor 2 and LMU after wearing it with pride for quite a while

In general where before the slidiness/floatiness/hollywood driving started is now the point where you know you're at severe risk of spinning out.

This is all subjective though, if sim racing taught me anything it is that how things are perceived can be astonishingly different. It might not be a surprise with so much different hardware around and many custom FFB flavors, not to mention people just not experiencing an objectively identical thing in quite the same way.

One good day the update will be out, all questions will be answered, and this thread can be put to rest, might be time, it already lived to the ripe old age of 201

 

That’s good to hear! I have accepted it probably won’t ever feel like an AMS1 (my personal holy grail of FFB/car feel) or assetto corsa(a close second) but I will be happy if it can get within the same ballpark. Super eager to try it out, I’m kicking myself for not joining beta!

I’m tempted to just request Monday off of work so I can play the new update all day (to manifest the 1.6 update coming this weekend, of course).

On another note: V1.6 brought a low speed feel for me I never experienced in any other sim, before I was just guessing in Suzuka's hairpin and chicane on what might happen, now I just breeze through effortlessly in general, provided I do not manage to screw up my entry speed, which I do a lot.

 

I agree. There is a lot of feeling more, most visibly in low speed corners, but also driving aero cars in fast corners is even more exhilarating than before. Driving aero cars around Sebring or Road Atlanta fast corners is just on another level for me with v1.6. It is literally intoxicating good.
Feeling around the steering wheel center is better too.
There is a lot to be liked IMHO in the incoming update in terms of FFB and cars behavior on tires.

 

I just did some laps around Road Atlanta in the Alpine, it put a big smile on my face. It took me some laps to figure it all out, not that easy for me to put it all together, talent issue… but when I did, I was so satisfied with the result I watched it 5 times in the replay, narcissistic

 

These posts are not helping me contain my v1.6 hype to reasonable levels…

They are working hard on the beta. We got a very interesting update yesterday

 

Does it relate to the driving experience or to the UI/UI adaptability or multiplayer part ?

You are too optimistic IMO

 

Some people commented how they have no interest in a single player mode when "it is just random tracks and cars mixed together and it's underwhelming and story modes are stupid too", such and such comments.

AMS2 single player does NOT need a story, it needs IMMERSION, for people to feel like they are taking part in the biggest motorsport event and that can only be done with the appropriate production values. To this day Nascar Thunder 2004 has not been beaten in that department, even though the later F1 games came close.

And keep in mind this game is 21 years old now.

 

I don't think they will be able to manage to do that.

It's probably the best idea to only start thinking about a release when Renato explicitly tells you to. As long as he doesn't give you anything specific, it's most probably weeks away and not just mere days.
